The city of Round Rock has won a recently announced Savvy Award for Best
Promotional Video for Population 70,000 - 200,000 from 3CMA (City-County
Communications & Marketing Association). The national award was given
for the video promoting the 2008 summer reading program, Texas Reading
Club Jubilee: 1958 - 2008! Celebrate 50 Years of Reading.

 

The video was conceptualized, planned and performed by the Library's
Youth Services division, including recently retired Barbara Vance,
Theresa Faris, Janette Johnston, Virginia Hadley, and the library
puppets. The video also featured library patrons, songwriters Joe
McDermott and Sara Hickman, and local city staff, including City
Manager, Jim Nuse and Mayor Maxwell reading to kids. Joe McDermott wrote
and performed the 2008 summer reading theme song, Celebrate 50 Years of
Reading.  The video was taped and edited by city videographer, Brooks

This video is the second Round Rock video to win the Savvy. The video
promoting the 2007 summer reading program,  Sail away with Books  also
won a Savvy, as well as first place at TATOA, Texas Association of
Telecommunications Officers and Advisors. It featured the song written
