her library applied over the past 3 years that reinvigorated their

A Big Step for the Association for Rural & Small Libraries
 Members of ARSL
Board<http://media.whatcounts.com/webjunction/Crossroads%20Content%20Ima
ges/arsl_board_2009b.jpg> </></ /></></ /></></ />The Association for
Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) has launched a new logo and website! In
a recent BlogJunction
<http://whatcounts.com/t?r=850&c=1814201&l=56077&ctl=2704257:00F6919F780
B039501F98DD99EE2603608F81572DF3C5D37&> post, Chrystie Hill shared
WebJunction's excitement about this milestone reached by ARSL, an
organization with which we have collaborated with over the past two
years. We look forward to finding new ways to work with ARSL as we each
strive toward the common mission of supporting the needs of small and
rural libraries. ARSL's website will serve as a dynamic space that
captures the association's personality and mission in a way that is
appealing and relevant their members. Congratulations to the ARSL board
for their commitment to expanding the organization's reach and response
to rural library staff.

And for those involved with the ARSL community, it is with great sadness
that we share the passing of Ken Davenport
<http://whatcounts.com/t?r=850&c=1814201&l=56077&ctl=2704259:00F6919F780

mentoring librarians in Northeast Iowa and throughout the rural United
States inspired many. He will certainly be missed.

ARSL Conference Recap
All reports from the recent 2009 Association for Small and Rural
Libraries Conference in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, were glowing. From formal
presentations to informal hikes in the Smoky Mountains, attendees were
reminded of the power of their transformative work in rural communities.
Everyone came away with a renewed awareness of the rewarding results
that come from colleagues sharing innovative solutions to common
challenges. WebJunction's Chrystie Hill was there and shared this report

thanks to the many library boards and state library agencies who
provided scholarships to those in their state who would not have been
able to attend without their support.
