We added 1400+ square feet last year. We funded it in two ways: a grant
from Lower Colorado River Authority for $25,000 and a loan from Government
Capitol Corporation for the rest. They provide low interest loans to
government entities- we are a library district. Our Board was not
interested in a fundraising campaign because of the economy and because they
thought the community would think we were asking for more money when we
already receive sales tax revenue. A member of the Board took on the task
of being project manager- handling the contractor and subs. I took care of
ordering furniture and shelving. This made it easy for me to continue my
regular job without the expansion interfering.

Subject: [ctls-l] Questions for new and soon-to-be-new libraries

Have you recently built or added on to your library? Are you in the
planning/fund-raising stages of doing so?

What worked and what didn't work? If you had it to do over again, how would
you change the process?

Do you know of funding resources from which we might try to get assistance
when we are ready to architecturally assess and/or build?

We appreciate any help you can give us as we look toward a future expansion!
