Public Librarians - Just a quick reminder that the TALL Texans Leadership Development Institute is currently welcoming applications for the Class of 2010. The deadline for applications is January 8. The seminar will be held June 13-17 at the Montserrat Retreat Center in Lake Dallas. Please consider applying for this transformational program. Information and online application forms are available on the TLA web site at http://www.txla.org/groups/talltex/tallldi.html <http://www.txla.org/groups/talltex/tallldi.html> . Participants will study strategic and tactical planning, communication, collaboration, teambuilding, conflict resolution, power, and advocacy. You will be better equipped to serve your library and your community after the experience of TALL Texans. Maureen Sullivan and Jack Siggins are scheduled to facilitate. Maureen Sullivan is an organizational development consultant to libraries and other information organizations. She has extensive experience on organizational development, strategic planning, and leadership development. She is currently on the faculty of the annual ACRL/Harvard Leadership Institute and is a professor of practice in the new Ph.D./Managerial Leadership in the Information Professions program at the Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science. She received her MLS degree from the University of Maryland. Her husband, Jack Siggins, is head of the Gelman Library at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Jack has been involved in the development and integration of automation in libraries throughout his career, from the pre-OCLC period to the present. He has served as consultant and trainer at several academic institutions in the U.S. and around the world in the areas of strategic planning, team building, resource sharing, benchmarking, organizational restructuring, building design and personnel management. Mentors for the 2010 Institute will be top library directors and administrators from around Texas: Maribel Castro-Garza (TLA President 2010-2011, St. John's School, Houston), Joyce Baumbach (Plano Public Library), Danny Jones (Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, San Antonio), June Koelker (Texas Christian University, Fort Worth), Maria Elena Ovalle (Education Service Center 1, Edinburg), and the TLA President Elect for 2010-2011 (public librarian to be elected in early 2010). This year is financially uncertain for many libraries. Numerous financial resources exist at the round table, district, and division levels to help with transportation and registration costs. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can provide more information to you or your librarians.
