Subject: [district3] Looking for library leaders in District 3

Please forgive cross-postings -

The deadline for the TALL Texans Leadership Institute has been extended
to January 22. The online form is available at
http://www.txla.org/groups/talltex/apply.html.

The Texas Accellerated Library Leaders Institute, better known as TALL
Texans, is a week-long seminar on leadership for librarians. The program
was founded in 1994 and now boasts over 380 graduates. The intended
participants are mid-career librarians (at least 5 years experience in
libraries) who have demonstrated initiative in starting new programs,
expanding services, and overcoming challenges.

The primary goal of the institute is to enhance leadership and
management skills in participants in order to improve libraries, the
librarian profession, and the community or campus served. The topics at
the seminar include strategic and tactical planning, communication,
collaboration, teambuilding, conflict resolution, power, and advocacy.
The curriculum combines advanced theory for these topics as well as
practical applications.

The Institute has a web site, which mentions the above information but
also gives a fuller description of the instructors and the facility:

http://www.txla.org/groups/talltex/tallldi.html

A selection committee will review the applications and pick 24
participants, with up to 5 alternates, in late February. Applicants will
be informed of the decisions by March 1. Acceptance to the TALL Texans
Leadership Institute is considered an honor throughout the Association,
and many member groups have set aside money to support participants in
their attendance. Financial aid is usually available upon request.

Education Specialist, at [email protected] / 800-580-2852.
