There are two museums in Round Rock. One, a small one, is the old Palm House
which fronts the RR Chamber of Commerce. The city owns the land that the
museum/Chamber sits on, so there is some support that way.

A new fire museum was put up in Old Settler's Park at Palm Valley last fall.
This section of the park is owned by the Old Settler's Assn. They are also
slowly reconstructing a 1880s type village and have done a great job so far.
The library had maintained some of the archives, as well as the 1900s vintage
hand pumper truck. We have placed the truck in the museum on permanent loan.
The city retains ownership of that wonderful vintage piece that the city
renovated about 11 years ago when there was still a VFD.

I guess a third museum might be the old Hopewell School. This school was the
African American school pre-1964. The ISD moved it to the RRHS/Administration
campus, renovated it, and it contains some memorabilia from that period,
provided by the former students. So, the ISD, a public agency, is providing the
maintenance and property.

Subject: [ctls-l] FW: libraries & museums

Does your city have a museum? Aside from La Grange (in which the museum,
archives, and library are all in one building), who else out there has a museum
that is run by a unit of local government (city, county, etc.)?

If there is a non-government sponsored museum, who operates it? Do any
city/county funds go to help support it?

Has your library ever been asked to take over & staff or fund a museum? How
about those in historical homes?

Thanks.
Laurie

Are there any libraries in our system that have museums in their towns? If so,
who oversees the museums? Are any of the libraries involved in museum
operations?
