Hi, Everyone:

I wanted to put a plug in for the Wireless Hotspots workshop being held next
week in San Marcos. It will be one part administrative and one part
technical (hands-on), and there will be lots of room for questions.

http://www.eventbrite.com/event/481674702

Here's a look at what we'll cover:

- what security issues need to be addressed so our hotspot is as safe as we
can make it for both our patrons and the library?
- what are some of the policy and management issues we need to address?
- what software and equipment might be needed to implement a safe public
hotspot?
- how do we make our wireless users aware of our policy?

We'll introduce the topic of network design and talk about jargon like
"captive portal". We'll also provide you some hands-on practice in
configuring an inexpensive wireless router to address many of these security
and policy concerns. And there is lots of documentation in both print and
electronic formats.

There are still some seats remaining, so come on and sign up! I'll be
presenting, and that means I'll need your help! So bring your curiosity and
your experience and expertise, and join in the discussion. I'm looking
forward to seeing you there.
