Carle, resigned yesterday after an inspector general's report concluded she misused her government credit card, House officials said. The House Oversight Committee announced Carle was leaving the post she was named to in January 1995 but did not give a reason. Her post pays $132,800 a year. The clerk is one of the top House officials, and many staff operations are run by the clerk's office. Sources familiar with the House inspector general's report said it accused Carle of making several hundred dollars of personal purchases with her House credit card in 1997 and this year. Reached at her home, Carle said: "I'm going to a great job at the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, and that's my statement." 1998 Philadelphia Newspapers Inc. ================================= Robert F.
