AUTHOR FEARED TO BE TARGET OF OKC SEALED INDICTMENT

(CNNS, 12/31/98) -- A Reuters wire service report dated Dec. 31,
1998 mentions that an Oklahoma grand jury has issued a sealed
indictment, "believed to concern witness tampering," in
connection with its investigation of the April 19, 1995 bombing
or bombings of the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City. ("Oklahoma
Grand Jury Baffled By John Doe No. 2," Reuters, 12/31/98)
It is not known at this point who has been indicted. But Sherman
H. Skolnick, chairman of The Citizens' Committee to Clean Up the
Courts, based in Chicago, is expressing fears that David M.
Hoffman, author of the book "The Oklahoma City Bombing and the
Politics of Terror" (Feral House, 1998), may be the person named
in the sealed indictment.
Mr. Skolnick, a veteran, independent investigator, is not certain
at this point whether Hoffman is indeed the person being sought.
He outlined the reasoning behind his concerns to CNNS (Conspiracy
Nation News Service) during a telephone interview.
According to Skolnick, Hoffman had appeared as a witness before
the grand jury in Oklahoma. All but one of the grand jurors were
reportedly belligerent toward Hoffman. The reason for their
hostility may have been that Hoffman had delivered a copy of his
book to each of them. Hoffman was reportedly grilled regarding
why he had provided the books. Hoffman's book supports the
conclusion of a wider conspiracy and ongoing cover-up related to
the Oklahoma City bombing or bombings. Hoffman had reportedly
included, together with his book, a personal note urging each of
the grand jurors to be extremely diligent in their investigation.
A local Oklahoma newspaper had printed a list of names of the
grand jurors, along with their respective addresses.
It may be that forces hostile to a thorough investigation have
construed Hoffman's note to the grand jurors to be "jury
tampering." Even though, by law, any citizen having what he
believes to be relevant evidence or testimony is permitted to
make himself available to a grand jury, Hoffman's note might have
been misinterpreted as being somehow threatening. Passions in
Oklahoma are heated regarding the OKC bombing(s) case.
It may be too that Hoffman, who, in the course of researching his
book, successfully tracked down several witnesses connected to
the Oklahoma City bombing or bombings, has been falsely accused
of "witness tampering."
Hoffman's attorney had reportedly warned him that he could be
targeted by a grand jury indictment.
Hoffman, at last report, was enroute to Denver when the sealed
indictment was handed up and could not be reached for comment.
According to Mr. Skolnick, the usual circumstance with sealed
indictments issued by a grand jury is that the indictments remain
sealed for 48 hours. This provides cover to authorities seeking
to apprehend those indicted. If this happens in the current
situation, then the name of the person secretly indicted will be
available soon.
