Harding was elected in 1920, I believe...but your correct in your
statement that there was discussion of an illegitimate child...along with
a lot of OTHER shenanigans...
The 19th century political scene was pretty wild and woolly, makes what
we see today look pretty tame...
The really bitter battle that took place in the 1800's, which may be the
one you're thinking of, involved I believe Tyler (but don't hold me to
it, it could have been some other president) who was accused of being
married to two women at the same time, with two sets of children...
I don't think it was ever proven that the allegations were untrue...

Yeah, that cartoon was drawn regarding the supposedly bigamous
president...it was run by the opposition during the reelection campaign,
and showed the kid asking "Ma, Ma, where's my Pa?" with the answer shown
