-Caveat Lector-

Yesterday, after thinking about the AMA-JAMA survey sex firing impartial
publication issue, I went looking for involvement in politics by the AMA.
All I came up with is the site shown below for political affiliation. If
the firing of that fellow was done to avoid 'politicking' or 'politicising'
the journal, it was done fairly quickly -- almost surgically. The site
lists no direct political affiliation that I can find. BUT: there is
politics (and $$$?).

I did find one for Texas where all of the endorsement for 'medically
friendly' candidates was listed. (In trying to re-locate that site, I
found one more.)

So, I was unsuccessful on one count and found two other things instead.

The first's URL is: http://www.texpac.org/endorsements.htm

The Texas Find Your Incumbent (FYI) system provides information about
elected officials
and the districts they represent. Information includes districts of the
Texas Senate, Texas
House of Representatives, Congress (Texas delegation, U.S. House of
Representatives),
and Texas State Board of Education (SBOE).

Based on local physician and Alliance recommendations, the TEXPAC Board of
Directors
has endorsed the following candidates in their respective races:

Legislative Highlights for January 18th: Legislature to canvass election
results; Bush, Perry to be sworn in; Legislative negotiations already
underway; Health department draws criticism over ephedrine rules; Tax code
rewrite unlikely, lawmaker says; TMA to present managed care concerns to
U.S. Senate committee. Read these stories online in the members only area.

CLIENT PROFILES

The network is particularly well-suited for professional trade
associations, corporations, and trade unions, who are interested in
offering their members, employees, retirees, and policyholders toll-free
access to legislative information and puts them in touch with their federal
or state legislators.

One Policy Voice client uses the network in cooperation with several state
associations. When the member contacts the network they can select from the
national or participating state program. If the national program is
selected they can hear updates of federal legislation and contact
congressional legislators. If the state program is selected, and the caller
is a member of the state association, they hear the relevant state
legislative updates and can contact their state legislators. The caller
accesses either program using the same toll-free number and enters the same
account number.

Another client offered companies participating in a coalition access to the
Policy Voice network for their individual use. Each coalition member
received a unique company account number, and all participants used the
same toll-free number. Grassroots activists contacted the network, entered
the account number given them by the coalition member and were able to hear
an update, transfer to a legislator, or transfer to a voice mail system
where they were able to leave their name and address for use in a personal
letter sent to their elected officials. During the campaign the client
received data, shared with coalition members, that identified the number of
calls and contacts made through the efforts of each coalition member.
