Ray Fernandez filed the lawsuit after his eight-year-old son, Ramiro, was attacked on two separate visits. Ramiro was hit on the head during his first trip to the Bronx Zoo in New York in June, 1995, and needed psychiatric help to fight a fear of primates. Mr Fernandez took him back a year later on the advice of the psychiatrist and his son was bombarded again. The zoo, which has assured him that the apes' antics are nothing personal, would not comment on the court action. But Virginia Landau, a primatologist, said: "This throwing is quite normal." Mr Fernadez is claiming the compensation for physical injury and mental anguish. Ironically, he made the first visit to the zoo, hoping to cure his daughter of a fear of animals.
