I haven't heard anything locally about the hangar visit, but will pass iton if I
do. Meanwhile, below is my first report on the pope situation here.

Pope JP2 comes here (St. Louis) next week. The press has yet to report that
Forest Park Community College, along the papal route, has been taken over by the
FBI and transformed into a high-tech security hq. Some locals have been issued
special police passes in order to get back into their own homes, on streets that
branch off those intended for the pope parade. Corporate sponsorship and
commercialism have surpassed humorous levels--Pope pictures and vatican coat of
arms in potato chip bags; local media promising round-the-clock coverage.
Schools have closed in anticipation of traffic problems, even state and public
schools, supposedly separated from the church--like Forest Park, now closed to
classes for the sake of the FBI. No need to keep the educational effort up, this
heavily Catholic town expects to transform itself into a medieval village for
the Holy See minus.
