Broaddrick Blockbuster Set to Run Friday -- Before NBC Panicked

Inside Cover has learned that Juanita Broaddrick, who gave an exclusive bombshell interview to NBC's Lisa Myers a week ago Wednesday, was told her story would be broadcast this Friday on the network's "Dateline NBC" newsmagazine. But at last word, network executives have come down with a bad case of cold feet.

A source who was present the entire time NBC grilled Broaddrick has revealed exclusively to Inside Cover that Myers' team put the Clinton accuser and her family through the wringer. NBC's private investigators combed through her backround to make sure the alleged assault victim had no hidden skeletons that might undermine her believability. Their verdict: She's "squeaky clean".

NBC cameras rolled for eight hours, recording interviews with both Broaddrick and her husband at the family's Arkansas home. "Dateline" came away with some five hours of usable footage.

"Dateline" also interviewed nurse Norma Rogers, a key corroborative witness who treated Broaddrick's bruises after her alleged attack by then-Arkansas Attorney General Bill Clinton. Rogers would not appear for any on camera close-ups out of concern for her young children's privacy, telling her story instead on audiotape.

Broaddrick is said to be exhausted and deeply frustrated that NBC, after chasing her story for nine months, had persuaded her to go public only to lose their own nerve at the eleventh hour. She got the first hint of trouble on Tuesday, when Myers called her to warn that NBC brass were panicking. "The good news is, you're credible. The bad news is, you're very, very credible," Myers told Broaddrick, according to our insider.

Our source said Broaddrick had decided the "Dateline" interview would be a one shot deal, and that she had hoped to retreat into anonymity after NBC made her story public.

Inside Cover has confirmed reports of NBC's skittishness and learned that other networks have approached Ms. Broaddrick. She is said to be weighing a change of venue should NBC execs go into the tank.

Another source close to the story told Inside Cover, "If 'Dateline' doesn't run Broaddrick Friday night, you'll know NBC has either postponed it or cancelled it."

Inside Cover will be monitoring "Dateline" tonight to see if NBC has regained their nerve.

Miffed at "Red" Davis

Mike Savage, the mega drive-time host on San Francisco's KSFO, refers to the new California Governor as "Red" Davis.

For others, Gray Davis is not red enough.

Alexander Cockburn, the Nation's standard-bearer, declares in his January 25th column that Davis has offended and betrayed almost all "Democratic groupings."(Read: special interests like unions, greens, gays, feminists, et al.)

Davis's most symbolic offense may be his snubs of his one-time mentor Jerry Brown. Davis had served as Brown's chief-of-staff when Brown was governor.

Davis paid no homage to Brown in his inaugural address, Cockburn relates, and Davis's oratory was "stagnant with cant, fetid with platitude."

The snubs on Brown are even more noticeable, because, as Mayor of Oakland, Brown is still Somebody. Davis didn't even bother to invite Brown to a rally Davis held in Oakland.

Cockburn laments that Davis will simply bore the hell out of California and the Democratic Party, noting he doesn't even have "Clinton's personal frailties."

"By the look of him, Davis's hand never strays to an intern's thong or a well-stressed bra strap."

Jerry Brown never teased an intern either. But Cockburn is right, Jerry is not Gray. Already he proved Gertrude Stein wrong, "there's a there there" in Oakland.

Plastic Surgery for Hillary?

Inside Cover reported last September that Tipper Gore had gone plastic, but what about Hillary?

Rumors have abounded in Washington for years that the First Lady has had one or more "make overs."

Now eyebrows are being raised all over New York. In the January 18 edition of New York magazine, an advertisement for a "cosmetic surgery consultant" named Denise Thomas features a glowing picture of Hillary.

Thomas' ad says she can serve as "your personal shopper, answer your questions and recommend the Best Certified Plastic Surgeons to meet your needs and your budget."

Hillary is depicted smiling as she shakes Thomas' hand, as in, "Job well done, girl."

Inside Cover called Denise Thomas. She wasn't in but her secretary said Hillary has "never, absoltutely never" had plastic surgery.

The secretary said Hillary is simply a friend of Denise Thomas. She said the White House is "thrilled" by the ad, and she had just gotten off the phone with Hillary's secretary before we called.

Larry Flynt's Daughter Fears Being 'Fosterized'

By all accounts, the news conference was a bust.

Tonya Flynt-Vega, the daughter of Larry Flynt, said she had the goods and journalists by the droves came to collect the latest dirt. She had promised evidence that her pornographer father's campaign to "out" members of Congress involved in the senate impeachment trial was being fed by the White House.

But in the end, it was coitus interruptus as Flynt-Vega failed to provide the documentation. New Republic writer David Grann hustled to speak with her after the news conference, and she explained she couldn't reveal the proof because she was worried about her safety.

"I hope I don't end up in some park like Vince Foster," said Flynt-Vega.

Perhaps it isn't Larry Flynt but rather the ghost of Vince Foster that is the real secret weapon of the White House ...

Tripp Tells More

Lost in all of the Senate trial proceedings has been the even more shocking allegations being made by Linda Tripp.

Last week Tripp was deposed for the third time by Judicial Watch's Larry Klayman.

Judicial Watch reports that Tripp exposed widespread misuse of FBI files in the White House Counsel's Office; revealed that she saw the infamous Rose Law Firm billing records in Vince Foster's safe, as well as an order by Hillary Clinton to fire the Travel Office employees; and that the Washington Post, through its senior editor Leonard Downie, routinely gave "heads up" to the White House on Clinton scandal stories. Tripp also revealed that Ken Starr has never attempted to question her substantively about Filegate or Travelgate, despite his statements before the House Judiciary Committee that he has thoroughly investigated these scandals and found nothing.

Tripp, during her grand jury testimony relating to the Lewinsky matter, testified that top White House officials had perjured themselves in detailing the circumstances of Foster's death.

Hillary Clinton testified she had nothing to do with the firing of the Travel Office employees. Tripp testified in her deposition to Judicial Watch that she had seen "in handwriting on a memo in Mrs. Clinton's hand signed HRC, which said, 'we need these people out,' out underlined --'we need our people in,' in underline, HRC.'"

But, Kenneth Starr said he found NO evidence. Go figure.

Clinton Feared Whitewater Sex Charge

Was Whitewater's Susan McDougal a member of Bill Clinton's Arkansas harem? Her husband, the late James McDougal, certainly thought so after he overheard what sounded like sex play between Clinton and his wife over an open phone line.

And the first time Susan was publicly quizzed on the matter in Sept. 1996, she told Prime Time Live's Diane Sawyer that it would be too "hurtful" to answer that question. (Subsequently McDougal has denied the charge.)

But Wed. night the irrepressible Dick Morris added a new wrinkle, revealing to FOX Network's Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes that Clinton asked for advice on how to handle the subject of sex with Whitewater Sue if Ken Starr's prosecutors broached the topic during his 1996 Whitewater trial testimony.

Clinton had been subpoenaed as a character witness in the trial of the McDougals and then-Arkansas Governor Jim Guy Tucker. His testimony was videotaped in the White House and later shown to a Little Rock jury, which convicted the three defendants.

"Let me make some news on your show," Morris began, adding, "I've never said this before on TV."

"In May of 1994 (sic), Bill Clinton called me into the residence of the White House. And he said, 'I'm about to testify in the Jim Guy Tucker trial.' And he asked me - he said, 'I am worried. What happens if they ask me under oath whether I had sex with Susan McDougal or not?' "

Morris continued, "And I didn't ask him, 'Did you have sex with Susan McDougal?' I just replied, 'If you had sex with her, admit it. Tell the truth. You won't win (the 1996 election) by 17 points. You'll win by 10 points. But you'll win. The one thing, sir, I beg you, is don't commit perjury because then nobody can help you'."

Hannity wondered, "Why would he ask you that unless it was true?"

Morris responded, "I'll leave that question to your imagination. I can't think of a reason."

Morris said Clinton's worries proved unfounded. Whitewater prosecutors never asked him that day whether he ever had sex with his former Whitewater business partner.
