Canada ran front-page photos Wednesday purporting to show the nation's most
famous groundhog lying in a coffin. But the local mayor says the corpse was
not the real Wiarton Willie. Willie, for 10 years the star of Canada's main
Groundhog Day festival, was supposed to make his annual weather prognosti-
cation Tuesday. But organizers told the crowd Willie had died Sunday - news
that caused some to burst into tears. Many people, including news photogra-
phers and TV crews, then passed by a pine coffin where a groundhog - suppos-
edly Willie - lay in state, pennies over his eyes. While Willie really did
die, Mayor Al Given told a Toronto radio station Wednesday that the corpse

*** Titan rockets near ready for return. WASHINGTON (AP) The US Air Force
plans "corrective actions" to the Titan rocket fleet to prevent a repeat of
a catastrophic satellite launch failure in August. A Titan IVB, the largest
US unmanned rocket, is scheduled to lift off from Cape Canaveral in late
March or early April. It will be the first Titan launch since the disaster
in which a rocket blew up, showering more than $1 billion in flaming debris
over the Atlantic Ocean. Investigators determined that electrical shorts in
the rocket's power supply wiring harness most likely caused the accident.
