The Knights Make Answer!
------------------------

"Let the Knights themselves answer what they say."
                                -- Glaucon, CNNS, 2/3/99

(CNNS, 02/04/99) -- The "Round Table" has responded to their own
rhetorical question, previously posed, by themselves noting that
this news service has not answered the RIDDLE posed by them in a
previous message. That is their answer: that CNNS had never
answered their RIDDLE.

Due to their nomenclature, "Round Table," CNNS refers to them by
the readily identifiable nickname, "Knights of the Round Table."

The specific path of developments will be detailed below. But
first, CNNS will attempt to shed more light on this unknown
entity, the "Round Table," a.k.a. "Knights of the Round Table."

Insight on the "Knights" is provided by W.B. Yeats (pronounced
YATES) in his poem, "The Grey Rock" (excerpts):

They sang a drowsy song, or snored,
For all were full of wine and meat.
The smoky torches made a glare
  On metal Goban'd hammered at,
On old deep silver rolling there
Or on some still unemptied cup
That he, when frenzy stirred his thews,
Had hammered out on mountain top
To hold the sacred stuff he brews
That only gods may buy of him.

So we can infer that the UNKNOWN "Knights" sit in a torch-lit
room, are full of wine and meat, and that "frenzy stirs their
thews."

Additional insight on these mysterious "Knights" is contained in
T.S. Eliot's poem, "Choruses From 'The Rock'", where he speaks of
the Crusades (excerpts):

Some went from love of glory,
Some went who were restless and curious,
  Some were rapacious and lustful.

But our King did well at Acre.
And in spite of all the dishonour,
The broken standards, the broken lives,
The broken faith in one place or another,
There was something left that was more than the tales
Of old men on winter evenings.
Only the faith could have done what was good of it,
  Whole faith of a few,
  Part faith of many.
  Not avarice, lechery, treachery,
  Envy, sloth, gluttony, jealousy, pride:
It was not these that made the Crusades,
  But these that unmade them.

Dealing with the "Round Table" "Knights," an unknown quantity,
legends must be relied upon to glimpse who they are. It can be
discerned from Eliot's poem that the "Knights" are basically men
of faith, "Whole faith of a few, part faith of many."

You know who I am; I am Brian Redman, Editor of CNNS. But the
"Knights", for some reason, strike from the shadows.

(More on who I am: High School drop-out; school bus driver for
handicapped children, 3 years; taxi driver, 7 years; college
degrees in computer science and Spanish; post-graduate studies in
Spanish literature; Editor, Conspiracy Nation, 5 years.)

The Round Table (who are they) came from (seemingly) nowhere to
ask the following rhetorical question:

Could conspiracy nation be a CFR/CIA operation to find
people "interested" in conspiracy theory so that they can
  neutralize their efforts?

How is such a question answered? If I deny the insinuation, then
it's "Yes. Of course he would deny it." If I don't answer, then
it's "Why doesn't he answer?"

Tell us, Conspiracy Nation: When did you stop beating your dog?

Responding to the prior CNNS story, "Conspiracy Nation Accused Of
Conspiracy," where it was decided not to answer the RIDDLE posed
by "Round Table," the UNKNOWN person(s) calling themselves "Round
Table" wrote as follows:

  Hmmmmmmmmm!

When the CFR/CIA press is asked the same question, they
simply don't answer. Your answer is a bit longer but the
  same.

Well, how does one answer the trick question, the RIDDLE:

Could conspiracy nation be a CFR/CIA operation to find
people "interested" in conspiracy theory so that they can
  neutralize their efforts?

Striking from the shadows, the "Knights" pose a connundrum: Can
the Pope, since he is infallible, make a pronouncement so weighty
that he himself can't negate it? (And then the "Knights" charge
in: "Huh? Well what about it? Why no answer!?")

Specific questions can be answered; riddles cannot be answered.

In a related situation, the "Knights" had previously theorized
that the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) were puppetmasters
pulling the strings on the ongoing Washington, DC Scandal-Mania.
The "Knights" might not have noticed that, in the previous CNNS
press release, this theory of theirs was dis-obviated, with the
following schematic:

                        Red China
                            |
                 People's Liberation Army
                            |
                        Wang Jun
                            |
           -------------------------------------
           | |
         CITIC Poly Group
           | |
        Ken Starr Bill Clinton

This news service had also noted the discrepancy between Ken
Starr (not CFR member) and Bill Clinton (CFR member). Apparently
the "Knights" did not catch the anomaly which casts doubt on
their "CFR Puppetmasters Of Scandal-Mania" theory.

Finally, it is wearisome to have had to take time away from real
news to deal with a shadowy person or persons (the "Knights")
casting aspersions on the efforts of this news service. I also
apologize to readers who have had to endure my faltering attempts
to respond to the "Knights." The "Round Table" aspersions caught
me groping for the best means to deal with the challenge.

For "Round Table":
1) Please come from the shadows, it will help your credibility.
2) Rhetorical questions cannot be answered, and it's unfair to
expect that they be answered.
3) I admire your questioning attitude, but the Knightly Quest
demands rigorous honor. The Knight who has erred shows he
or she is honorable by acknowledging any mis-deeds. Please show
you are a True Knight, and that the name "Round Table," which you
wear, is not a hiss and a scoff.
