Muslim leader accused Pakistan of supporting extremist Islamic groups fight-

radical Sunni activists linked with recent slayings of 5 Shiite Muslims.
Extremist Sunni and Shiite Muslims are locked in a bloody conflict that has
killed hundreds of people in Pakistan over the last few years. The religious
violence has intensified in recent months, especially in Punjab province,
the home of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The Sunni Muslim parties want
Pakistan to be declared a Sunni Muslim state - a demand opposed by Shiites.

*** Ex-India army chief dies. NEW DELHI (AP) K. Sundarji, the former Indian
army chief who led the deadly 1984 raid on the Golden Temple, Sikhism's
holiest shrine, died Monday of colon cancer at age 69. Sundarji's role in
the storming of the Golden Temple, which according to unofficial estimates
left 3,800 people dead in the northern town of Amritsar, haunted him after
he retired. He was on the hit list of Sikh separatists who succeeded in
killing other officers involved in the raid. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi
