PETERSBURG, February 22 (Itar-Tass) - Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov said the Kosovo conflict will decide the fate of the world order for many years to come. Speaking at a meeting with the members of the local branch of the his party in St. Petersburg on Monday, Zyuganov said that he had talked with the Russian diplomats participating in the Rambouillet peace conference in Kosovo several times during the day. "The United States is interested in starting a new European fire in the Balkans because united Europe together with Russia can compete with the U.S.... America is afraid of united Europe and this is the reason for escalating the Kosovo conflict," he said. If NATO uses force, this will "weaken the governments of France, Italy and Germany," Zyuganov warned. He expressed regret that Russia is not strong enough to play a more noticeable role in the settlement of the conflict.
