-Caveat Lector- Well, there she was. Monica Lewinsky. And from what I'm gathering, the public still doesn't get the point. I would bet few people on this list--with all the rant about the constitution and "rule of law" and the like-- got the point either. And, of course, to top it off, the media doesn't want you to get the point. This young woman and her whole family were terrorized, driven to the point of suicide by Kenneth Starr and his thugs. She was threatened with 27 years in prison if she attempted to keep her private, consensual affair private. She had not committed any crime. Consensual sex between two adults is NOT a crime. The only way out for her was to present every lurid, PRIVATE detail of her relationship to Ken Starr and his "committee." The threat was jail--27 years for something that was NOT a crime. The reward: a "Get Out of Jail Free" card. Her friends and family--all were dragged before the Starr committee. Her mother was forced to testify against her daughter. And this is "constitutional"? The only thing Starr could have hoped to get from her against Clinton was material that would provide ammo for character assassination, --to prove Clinton was the "kind of man" who might have done something to Paula Jones...since neither Clinton nor Lewinsky had committed a crime. In exchange for a 27-year prison sentence, she got a full year of public humiliation, being the butt of every media comic--which may have destroyed her future (although she seems pretty resilient, in light of what she's been put through.). And the one telling thing she said to Barbara Walters was when she was asked what she had "learned." She said she had learned about a lot of things she had never thought went on in this country. Did anyone hear her? I would surprised if anyone but a professional would be foolish enough to have consentual sex with a married public official again for a decade or two. What Monica did was foolish. What was done to Monica and to her family was terrifying.
