If my work was so shoddy, then why does your hero, Dan, cite it so often? I have never cited a single word he has written, because I consider him unbalanced and unreliable. (And he doesn't even cite me accurately! Christ, he's even worse than Jim Keith, king of the konspiracy klowns.) But yeah, it's true that I left this field of research. ALL the good researchers have left. Tom Porter, Mike Coyle, Dick Russell, Scheflin...they have either turned their attentions elsewhere, or they keep such a low profile they might as well be absent. Why? Because the claimants are simply impossible to deal with. As Porter once pointed out to me, a version of Gresham's law has ruined this field of inquiry. The schizos have taken over the research. I feel sorry for them, at least some of the time, but that doesn't mean I want them in my life. Have I really spent so much time over the past few years criticizing others...? Look, just check out my usenet history. Fact is, I've gone on to other interests. Dan keeps dragging me into this. The only time I have even addressed the issues brough up by "Controllers" was in response to some tempest he stirred up! And yet that jerk pretends that I spend my every day harasing the abductees! Yeah, if someone forces me to address the issue, I'll give my honest opinion. I think the vast majority of the folks claiming to be victims of mind control, "UFO abduction" and ritual abuse are simply delusional. But unless provoked, as i have been recently, I don't go out of my way to shout that opinion. Dan was on TV a year ago -- I think it was "Hard Copy -- talking about the cartoon characters in his head. He didn't know that the producers got his telephone number from ME. The producer desperately wanted me to appear on the show as the voice of skepticism! Hell, she begged...practically offered me sex. But I did not go for it. If, as you and Dan pretend, I make a crusade of attacking the claimants, I would have gone on camera. But why? The average person will figureout that people like Dan are simply delusional. In my personal experience, I have seen too many people fall into delusional patterns right before my eyes. You can't tell me that false memories don't exist: I have twice tried to love women given to pseudomemory. The first was a well-known abductee. She has told huge audiences that her child (now grown) was sired by a space alien. Yet privately, she once admitted to me that the father of the child was actually some guy she met in a bookstore. And yet...recently she went back to the "alien" story -- and actually speaks as though she believes it! The second woman was the subject of much recent discussion, due to Dan's ill-advised re-printing of a letter she now regrets having sent him. In my last conversation this lady, she vehemntly denied that she had ever stabbed herself in the breast with a medical needle. I told her I had seen her do it, seen her breasts turned black and blue. She said *I* was "psychotic" if I recalled such a thing. Yet her own public post from Feb. 1998 contains her detailed description of this very practice! And those are just the women I cared about. I've seen the process at work far too often with others. (You ought to check with KPFA broadcaster Ralph Steiner...he gotpersonally involved with a CLASSIC case. Her name was Wendy...) I honestly believe there are a number of individuals, primarily female, who, for a variety of psychological or physiologicals reasons, go through much of each day in a dream-like state. These people cannot tell the difference between the memories they prefer and actual memories. Many of these people adore attention, and do not much care about the difference between "bad " and "good' attention. Might there be "good" cases lost in that morass? Yeah! But finding a diamond hidden in a storage tank filled with broken glass is a job others will have to do. I've been lacerated far too often to continue that search. Now, I am perfectly happy to respond at length each time you guys attack me. But if you REALLY want me "out," then don't attack, and I won't respond. Oh...the book. I wrote about 27 chapters or so. It was lost in a hard drive crash in September of 1996. Tom Porter can confirm this; he and his wife stayed with me the night my hard drive went weird on me. Months later, I found a rough draft of twelve chapters. That stuff needs a lot of cleaning up. I won't do it, because I frankly don't want to have to address the issue of mind control any more. To reiterate briefly: Adam, who has his own serious psychological issues (stemming from massive drug abuse and poorly-controlled diabetes) seriously thereatened my life (recorded), then cancelled the book without telling me, letting me do all sorts of needless work. I've checked with good legal counsel...no WAY I owe that maniac a penny. He's lucky I didn't bring suit against HIM. And I strongly advise all other authors to stay away from his firm, Feral House. He has a habit of threatening authors, and not paying them money owed. (To confirm the latter point, call Ken at "Amok Books" in Los Angeles.) I think you guys are so cute! You treat me like the Devil now that I've become a skeptic, yet, because you claimants are classic attention-seekers, you refuse to let me simply go on to other pursuits.
