Clinton bomb threat may have come from cops
A bomb threat that interrupted President Clinton's motorcade during a
fund-raising visit last month may have come from within the Boston Police
Department, the Boston Herald reported Friday.
The threat was phoned into a police emergency line. Police believe it came
from a cellular phone. An examination of records from Cellular One, the
main police phone provider, showed no emergency calls from those phones
during the presidential visit, said a police spokeswoman, Sgt. Margot Hill.
However a source the Herald didn't identify said investigators have not
ruled out that the threat could have been called in by someone from within
the department. ``There have been some things that led us to believe it
could have come (from a police phone),'' the source said, declining to
elaborate. The caller apparently said a bomb was located on a truck along
the motorcade route from Logan International Airport to the Park Plaza
Hotel. The motorcade was briefly rerouted because of the threat. Police
spokesman Kevin Jones said Friday that the investigation into the threat
was continuing.
