The GUID is a separate issue from the unique chip identifiers, which
has been known about for some time. It does identify a unique copy
of Word, but not the particular machine on which it's running. There
are also many available programs to delete the GUID from Word
documents, which can't be done with the PCID chip number. This is the
important thing - that users are unable to shut off the PCID feature.

I think it's actually an advantage to have an embedded number in a
Word document for copyright/authorship issues, as long as you can
remove it if you wish. What's surprising is that the Melissa author
didn't do/know about this. Unless he/she did and is framing someone.
