We are being inundated with cruel propaganda in shamful attempt to justify
bombing Yugoslavia. Jamie Shea, NATO spokesman, spent his entire time at the
briefing trying to justify the mindless killing of Serbs with missiles hurled
into Yugoslavia from hundreds of miles away. In doing so he repeatedly used
standard propaganda terms such as "genocide," "ethnic cleansing,"
"atrocities," "paramilitary gangs," and other highly charged phrases designed
to evoke emotional responses. The only facts offered to support such
allegations are the pictures of burning houses and the appearance of refugees
in neighboring countries. CNN was reduced to reporting such monstrous
"atrocities" as seizing license plates from fleeing Albanians to prevent
their return.

Reports from other sources paint a different image. Neutral observers
located in Kosovo report stepped up fighting between the rebels and
Yugoslavian troops but no evidence of atrocities. French Defence Minister
Alain Richard blamed fresh fighting in Kosovo on ethnic Albanian guerrillas.
That statement prompted a visit to Paris by General Wesley Clark to
contradict such information. It is becoming obvious that the "humanitarian
crisis" in Kosovo has been manufactured by U.S. propagandists.

U.S. officials criticize Yugoslavia for driving civilians out of Kosovo.
Somebody should point out that the area is the focus of a major military
action. Since U.S. leaders have announced that they could send ground troops
into Kosovo, they shouldn't be surprised that the Yugoslavians are trying to
establish defenses, and that civilians would try get out of the country.

That the U.S. has to resort to cruel propaganda is a sign of the weakness
of its position on the Kosovo conflict. Under the Clinton administration,
the United States has become the leading terrorist bully in the world.

I travel overseas for work. I've learned from several personal experiences
over the last 15 years not to trust the national U.S. media. This coupled
with the fact that the Clintons are experts at manipulating the media for
their own ends, has made me very leery of this whole adventure.

Over the last year, most foreign papers have been continually editorializing
against America's reckless behavior in the world. Unfortunately, American's
are woefully ignorant of the world around them. The average person in this
country has very little perspective outside of what the government feeds
them through the national media. This allows the government to basically do
anything it wants by simply by demonizing someone on the 6 o'clock news. As
Newt Gingrich can tell you, the Clintons are experts at manipulating the
media to demonize their enemies.

While we are sitting here in our comfortable homes, with the stock market at
record levels, the Clintons are using our military to kill women and
children in the streets of Serbia, just as the Clintons used our military to
kill innocent civilians in the Sudan last year.

Yes indeed. You are correct. Clinton is a terrorist. His actions are
going to result in terrible consequences for America and the world.

Question: Why are we butting in to everybody else's business? Iraq I can
understand, there never was a peace treaty signed so technically the
Gulf War never ended. But then we go off bombing such amorphous threats
as Osama bin Laden's *terrorist organization* and supposedly genocidal
Serbian troops.

The Russians so far have shown remarkable restraint. If our next target
is Taiwan, will the Chinese be so lenient? I've already had to die in
two wars this century, I really don't want the third time to be the
charm...

Yes, the Russians have shown restraint. How long will that last? My
understanding is that the average Russian is pissed as hell over what we are
doing. As the Russian economy continues to disintegrate, Yelstin may figure
out that a war in Europe could be just what he needs to take the people's
minds off of their economic woes. Tass has reported that Russia has moved
50 tactical nuclear weapons into position. What's next?

Short term, they are just rattling their sabers. Long term, this could
create an anti-American alliance of Russia and China which could ignite
another cold war.

The Russians don't have the latest weapons, but they have one thing we don't
have
- a willingness to use ground troops in campaigns that will produce
significant
casualties. Once on the ground, men start dying, and then will we be
supporting
this distant war? Body bags look lousy on the evening news. We don't have
the
will to continue this beyond the computer-game button pushing stage. We can
bomb
from the Adriatic, but we can't take a house without sending in a man to get
shot
at.

Yeltsin will do nothing. But he is old and his heart is failing. And 75%
of Russians believe that the US is engaged in a deliberate campaign to
make their country into a third world nation (as if it isn't already).
Once Yeltsin dies, anything could happen. What if Zhirinovsky (sp?)
comes back and grabs power?

Hard-liners recruit young Russians to aid the Serb cause
The Boston Globe

MOSCOW - Vladimir Lokotsky likes American blue jeans, American cigarettes,
and American rock music. But yesterday, he strode into the makeshift
recruiting center in central Moscow to sign up to fight Americans.

Before NATO began bombing Serb forces in Yugoslavia, Lokotsky, an unemployed
sailor, had no reason to like, or even think much about Yugoslav President
Slobodan Milosevic. Now, Lokotsky says, he is ready to die for him.

Lokotsky is one of hundreds of young Russians who, encouraged by communist
and nationalist Russian politicians, have volunteered to fight against NATO
on the side of the Serbs. To hear these recruits tell it, the American-led
alliance's airstrikes pose a clear and present threat to Russia.

''We have to stop the advance of NATO now,'' Lokotsky said as patriotic
music blared from a loudspeaker and young men in fatigues carried stacks of
new uniforms and boots past a poster that read, ''The Motherland is calling
you!'' ''It's only thanks to the Yugoslavs and Milosevic that NATO has not
occupied Russia.''

Russia, mostly made up of Orthodox Christian Slavs like the Serbs, has
struck an increasingly hawkish pose as NATO's airstrikes against Yugoslavia
intensify.

Yesterday, Russia expelled NATO's Moscow representatives and refused all
contacts with alliance officials. Moscow called for a world tribunal to
charge the NATO leaders who planned the bombing. And in an apparent display
of military might, the Russian Navy sent two of its most powerful warships
to sea.

The saber-rattling and rhetoric has been largely for show. Russia, which
will renew talks tomorrow for a $4.8 billion loan from the West with the
International Monetary Fund, cannot afford to match its aggressive words
with action.

The same cannot be said of ordinary Russians, angered that NATO launched the
airstrikes in defiance of Russia. Many people who a week ago might have had
little sympathy for Milosevic have reacted to the bombing against Yugoslavia
as if the airstrikes were aimed at Russia. For the second day, crowds of
young men, looking for an outlet to vent their anger, have pelted the
embassies of the United States and other NATO countries with eggs and
bottles. Hardline politicians, sensing an opportunity to play on those
emotions, have set up the recruiting centers.

''I am an Orthodox, a Slav,'' said Igor Gnusov, a professional driver who
had just signed up at a recruiting center run by Russian ultranationalist
leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky. ''I am doing this out of patriotism. We have to
defend Russia.''

Zhirinovsky's aides say they have collected more than 200 signatures in
Moscow and 5,000 across Russia. While that claim is impossible to verify, a
steady stream of recruits marched into the Moscow office, some of them
veterans of the wars in Afghanistan or Chechnya. Russia's Communists and
several other anti-Western parties have also started similar sign-ups.

Most of those questioned knew that Russia has fought alongside Serbia over
the past 150 years. Their common enemies, until now: Ottoman Turkey,
imperial Austria, and Nazi Germany.

''When I am young, I love America. I love rock group Kiss,'' said Dima, a
30-year-old volunteer whose blue jeans and long hair made him look a bit
like Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley, without the makeup. ''But when I turn 30, I
change my mind. America force its ideals on us. I'm tired of America.''

Weary as he may be, Dima may never get to fight. For that to happen, first
the volunteers have to get permission to go to Yugoslavia. Then there has to
be something for them to do. Right now, said Eduard Yanglayev, an aide to
Zhirinovsky, the center is looking for experienced pilots or anti-aircraft
specialists.

Critics dismissed the recruitment drive as an effort to derive political
capital by Zhirinovsky, the once-immensely popular legislator whose national
standing had fallen in polls to under the 5 percent needed by his party to
win seats in parliament. Russian leaders, meanwhile, considered ways to help
Yugoslavia without resorting to force or jeopardizing their chances for
financial aid.

A diplomatic effort was foiled yesterday when the UN Security Council
overwhelmingly defeated a Russian resolution demanding an immediate halt to
the airstrikes.

Later, Anatoly Kvashnin, head of the Russian General Staff, declined to take
a phone call from his American counterpart, General Henry Shelton. Kvashnin
said there was ''nothing to discuss,'' Russian news agencies reported.

Two of the most powerful vessels in the Russian Navy, the nuclear-powered
cruisers Admiral Kuznetsov and Petr Velikhy, sailed from the Arctic port of
Murmansk for what NTV television, quoting Defense Ministry sources, called
''exercises.''

''Clearly this looks like a show of force,'' NTV anchorman Mikhail Osokhin
commented.

Many politicians want to send Yugoslavia advance anti-aircraft systems, but
the Interfax news agency quoted a military expert as saying it would be
''difficult'' to get shipments to the Serbs through international blockades.

Interfax quoted another source on the general staff as saying Russia could
provide Yugoslavia with Moscow's satellite intelligence on NATO aircraft.

Russia's parliament, which will hold an emergency session today to discuss
responses to the NATO bombing, has already decided to once again postpone
ratifying the 1993 Start-II treaty nuclear arms reduction. Legislators said
they would propose removing a Russian peacekeeping brigade in Bosnia from
under the command of a larger NATO peacekeeping force there.

''All the political forces,'' said centrist leader Vladimir Ryzhkov, ''have
consolidated'' on this issue.

There has never been a "humane" civil war and never will be. Civil wars are
by nature extremely brutal with atrocities committed by both sides. The
mantra - Serbs BAD - Albanians GOOD is pure propaganda for the naive public.

Anyone that says he can enforce a humane civil war is either lying or an
idiot.

We can bomb people into submission but we cannot eliminate their bitterness
and hatred. The old saying "You can drive a horse to water but you can't
make him drink" is appropriate.

I am from Belgrade. Propaganda works on both
sides . Our propaganda is protecting our government, to raise moral(we have
it enough) and of course to protect Milosevic(he is not so bad as western
media try to picture him). But when I visit CNN,BBC,SKY and other
inf corps on internet I dont know should I laugh or should I cry! Believe me
its sad and amusing at a same time what they are doing.
For example, our television had reported that "okolina Beograda je
bombardovana" witch means that outskirts of Belgrade were bombed and then
CNN puts that picture and with words: " Okolina, Belgrade" which means
that they even dont have translator(not to mention that they dont know where
Belgrade is) but they know to say that masacre on Kosovo is TERRIFYING! Can
any proffesional do that and give personal opinion of something and
somewhere(they dont have their reporters on Kosovo!). I never fighted or
punched anybody in my life(19) but I am ready to kill with pleasure any
stupid solder who was so stupid and misguided to enter Holy ground of
Kosovo.
Thank you all for thinking and being reasonable!
