<< [Our enemies] don't have the latest weapons, but they have one thing we don't have -- a willingness to use ground troops in campaigns that will produce significant casualties. Once on the ground, men start dying, and then will we be supporting this distant war? Body bags look lousy on the evening news. We don't have the will to continue this beyond the computer-game button pushing stage. >> The bottom line -- The US corporate army, corrupt, greedy, dishonest, inattentive, and complacent solely because of our HIGH-TECH "superiority" (which on closer inspection involves pretty shoddy workmanship and a high failure rate, due to the characteristics first in line in the description above) is, in any contest with the REAL world of hard work, pain, misery and bloodshed, simply COWARDLY. Arm-chair generals who pay more attention to their stock portfolios and future corporate directorships, "fighting men" who are couch-potatoes with a detached video-game attitude, and a mass of young grunts in the armed services mostly as an alternative to being in jail for assault and battery, or on welfare, who are convinced they'll never face anything more stressful than boot camp in their military vacations, and so far have been right about that. Meanwhile, all over the planet, with "genocide" having everywhere else become S.O.P. since WWII, billions of NON-yuppies are suffering and dying in the REAL world, and even children are now in uniform in armies who torture and butcher innocent civilians hundreds at a time, hardly batting an eye. Good God preserve any Americans in uniform who find themselves out of their element ON THE GROUND -- far from their remote- controller couches in castles in the air, where they've too long been living in a fantasy, in a media-built Versailles ... Even with satellite-controlled targeting, $1 million remote-programmed missiles, and the hottest "stealth" technology, our modern American "robo-warriors" are simply dead meat in any hand-to-hand combat with wave after wave of "low tech" flesh-and-blood peasants who KNOW what pain and sacrifice are and are willing to DIE -- en masse.. If ever the US decides to send GROUND troops into the Balkans --and the Bush et al Octopus in NATO seems to be setting Clinton up for such a choice, which we can see coming already with the "3 Americans prisoners of the Serbs" theme, straight out of "Saving Private Ryan" (now that "Wag the Dog" is so obvious it's even on Serbian TV)-- it's almost FATED that this nation will face the Millennium with the worst humiliation of its macho-manque hubris since our loss of Vietnam, and that'll have CONSEQUENCES in our culture, disabusing at least one more generation of any notion of our "superior" position on the planet -- not to mention the consequences OUTSIDE our culture, where our enemies --"empires" next in line, as our sun sets-- will see no reason NOT to risk everything in warfare, with more bravado, eyes opened by our clay-feet comeuppance..
