Mae Brussell, died in three weeks of a fast-acting cancer in Carmel, California at
the age of 66, on October 3, 1988. She had just left her radio show of 17 years
after receiving a death threat and having her home broken into. (Radio talk show
host Art Bell followed a similar pattern, dropping out of his program after
receiving a still unidentified threat. He returned in two weeks, however. Mae
Brussell never came back.) At the time, Brussell had taught the only accredited
course on conspiracy in the country, was listed in the International Who's Who of
Intellectuals and had just received the George Seldes Award from the American
Society of Journalists, bringing a whole new level of credibility to parapolitical
research. Also at the time, she was investigating followers of Satanic cults in
the military.
