Charles Evans, it is important to mention something. In case you don't already know it, John Waters told this story through the eyes of his friend, J. Ever since I started circulating review copies, I've become keenly aware of how many people are truly outraged by the injustice in our American justice system. 11. What inspires you to write? The pleasure of seeing a worthwhile story crystalize into a great book. To me, Bonded Thru Injustice has been the pinnacle. 12. Why did you become a writer? Even as a kid, I've always enjoyed telling a friend a story. So I figured being a writer was my chance to do what I loved most and perhaps even earn a decent living in the process. 13. Any advice to aspiring writers? This can be summed up in only seven words: KEEP WRITING AND NEVER, EVER GIVE UP. 14. One last question � more curiosity than anything else. Why did you use "Thru" and not "Through" in the title? Well, the story itself is about irregularities. And the book's dust jacket displays unbalanced scales of justice. So it only seemed appropriate to take literary license with the title. Part Two - Addressed to J. Charles Evans 15. I understand you've performend successful investigations for a number of notable criminal defense attorneys. Yes. Over the years I've worked with Johnnie Cochran, Leslie Abramson and Michael Zimbert. 16. Can you quote one of the documented examples John Waters spoke of regarding the DEA's participation in the drug trade? You bet. "On February 25, 1993, members of the Riverside RO Truck Group received 348 kilograms of cocaine in an undercover capacity from a Mexican trafficking organization directed by Hernandez. On February 28, 1993, the Truck Group returned the cocaine to another group of traffickers in Ontario, CA, as directed by Hernandez. [blacked out] told TFO Fraser that the owner of the cocaine was El Profesor's uncle, Armando Hernandez. Hernandez, according to the CI, is a general in the Mexican army and the past Mexican Minister of Defense." 17. Wow. How about one more? Okay. "On April 8, 1993, a controlled importation of a multi-hundred kilogram quantity of cocaine was conducted through the Calexico, CA Port of Entry in coordination with the Calexico RO. The load car was recovered by S/A Sage and TFO Wong without incident and found to contain 639 kilograms of cocaine." 18. How long ago did you turn up these documents? Almost six years ago, giving us a distinct advantage over any other portrayal of this story. 19.
