Interview methods can be crucial - Kids can be accurate if adults know how to question them properly Pam Kelley 12/15/02 Believe the children. " But others believe Ceci and Bruck overstated some points. UNC's Everson, an expert witness for the prosecution in the Little Rascals case, argues that the authors focused on the weakest part of cases. It's hard to imagine that every child who claimed abuse was badly interviewed and confused, he says. "There's so much smoke there," he says, "it's hard to imagine there's no fire." Recent research also has shown that fantasy elements in children's testimony, such as flying or being thrown to sharks, aren't cause for dismissing a child's allegations, Everson says. Such fantastic details may emerge from the child's nightmares that occur after the abuse." http://www.charlotte.com

By John Markoff and John Schwartz New York Times
The Bush administration is planning to propose requiring Internet service providers to help build a centralized system to enable broad monitoring of the Internet and, potentially, surveillance of its users. The proposal is part of a final version of a report, ``The National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace,'' set for release early next year, according to several people who have been briefed on the report. It is a component of the effort to increase national security after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Catholic Priest Involved in N.Irish Bombing - Police By Reuters Londonderry, Northern Ireland (Reuters) - British ministers and the Roman Catholic Church may have colluded to cover up the involvement of a priest in one of Northern Ireland's worst atrocities, police suggested on Friday. Assistant Chief Constable Sam Kinkaid said a new probe had concluded a priest was involved in the 1972 Claudy bombings in which nine people died, and that members of the British government and church hierarchy knew of his IRA links. ``In a search of 1972 papers, information has been found which clearly indicates that a parish priest in the south Derry area was a member of the provisional IRA and was actively involved in terrorism,'' Kinkaid said. http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/international/international-irish-claudy.html?ex=1041451081&ei=1&en=ae6d344a48d2d692
