.... Anyone out there. If you want to see who is censoring
your site on the internet just insert a code into each of your pages so
you can use that code to quickly pull up your site in the Search
Results.

>At this point you are assuming the meta-crawlers automatically re-index
the site using the new keywords. This is not the case. I do much
web-design, and often it takes 2 weeks to a month for refreshed pages to
be re-indexed using the new information. This is not censorship, but
simply a result of the daunting task of keeping an accurate index of the
billions of web-pages out there in the public domain. It is interesting
to note that the Google engine was actually used by crackers (I'm not
using the term "Hacker" here purposefully, as by definition taking
someone elses tools and exploiting them is not in essence "Hacking") to
index some private domains too (ie. DOD, MIL, GOV, etc.)

I read and interpret my own web-logs, and know when people come and go.
My site gets re-indexed once every two months by Google, which is about
the same frequency as the other search engines.

Please forward the information you have about Google being owned by
Yahoo, as I can find no mention of it anywhere. They apparently own 5-6%
of Google, which I wouldn't exactly call a majority stake.

As far as the whole Cisco IOS fiasco is concerned... If I were to obtain
the source-code to Windows and somehow tweaked the OS and redistributed
it, Microsoft wouldn't support that. Same with Red Hat, same with
Mandrake, same with FreeDOS, same with EROS, same with beOS, same with
Solaris, same with open/VMS, same with... well, you get the point. There
has to be some point of control for the maintenance and distribution of
software, and the publisher more often than not will determine what that
point of control is. If I came up with some code that say doubled
download throughput, it isn't beyond the scope of possibility that I
could've tweaked the kernel elsewhere to open up a backdoor or allow the
delivery of a Trojan program at some point. Should that be freely
distributed to everyone? While the author of the malware may think that
is a good idea, I don't think the publisher would agree. At this point
you can plainly see where the "They're all out to get me!" mentality is
reversed upon the publisher.

So SBC tweaked IOS on their routers. I tweak IOS on my routers. There
are finite and observable things which occur between that strange
black-box you have your machine plugged into and the outside world. If
you do not have an understanding of these things and they frighten you,
I apologize. However, you have to realize that (from what I've read on
IS Security Trade websites and in industry newsletters) a good deal of
the broadband (above ISDN - speed or 128k) products connected to the
internet are compromised out-of-the-box by the ignorance of their users.
The manufacturers are getting better at sealing these vulnerabilities up
with their default settings, but there is already a dearth of
compromised routers out there with lots of bandwidth. These compromised
routers have been used by script-kiddies to essentially shut down some
transit routers in the past year via massive packet floods, etc. (see
www.grc.com) You just have to know what you are doing when you install
the darn things (the directions suck, especially for the layman) and
have a hub, packet sniffer, and the associated hardware installed.
People have a misguided conception that these things are safe
out-of-the-box.

Of greater concern to me is the proliferation of 802b wireless, and some
of the shoddy installs which have been found nationwide (see
www.airsnort.com). This is not the fault of the manufacturers, as they
are just giving us what we want. We want to roam freely from
room-to-room with our laptops as we surf the net, or not bother with
pulling some of that pesky CAT-5 cabling through the house. Meanwhile,
someone like me is checking their e-mail and surfing the web while
parked on the street in front of your house. (Oh, by the way... thanks
for leaving that My Pictures directory shared... I loved those shots of
your wife tied to the banister!)

People fear what they don't understand, and rightly so. Hence, I commend
Mr. Moser for somewhat misguidedly bringing up an important issue.
However, cyber-security is the responsibility of the end user and I
think it is a point that cannot be argued. People are being given some
pretty big toys to play with here. I can remember when the thought of
having my own personal fractional T1 made me salivate. The
infrastructure hasn't kept up with the bandwidth demand leaving it
vulnerable to disruption, and having a bunch of data cannons out there
ready to go off... not good.

If it does not come up then you will know right away who is
censoring and who is not. Support those who support FREE SPEECH like

The "Illuminati" as a generic term has been used to personify and
marginalize forces of being which we have no control over. When one
screams "Yahoo is run by the Illuminati" coupled with an inane fear of
floating-point arithmetic, I start to wonder... There once was a time
when people felt it necessary to find cover during an eclipse too.

Are you getting points from alltheweb for spamming the list?
