THE PSYCHOLOGY BEHIND MASS SUBSERVIENCE TO TYRANNY
And The Consequent Rise of the Fourth Reich....
As I mentioned above, Hitler was TIME Magazine's Man of the Year in 1938. Stalin was TIME Magazine's Man of the Year for 1939 and 1942. Both of these men, and many others also celebrated by the media, were unimaginable monsters. The lesson from these facts is that it isn't easy to spot a genocidal tyrant when you live with one, especially one whom the press supports and promotes. Tyrants become obvious only when looking back - after what they have done becomes known. The German people did not stand up to Hitler because their media betrayed them, just as the American media is betraying the American people by willingly, voluntarily, even proudly, abandoning its traditional role as watchdog against government abuse.

Human Rights Week 2002 by Noam Chomsky December 28, 2002 Human Rights Week is not much of an occasion in the US, with some notable qualifications. But it does receive considerable attention elsewhere. For me personally, Human Rights Week 2002 was memorable and poignant. The week opened on the eve of Human Rights Day, Dec. 10, at St. Paul's Cathedral in London, where thousands of people gathered to celebrate -- though that may not be quite the right word -- the tenth anniversary of the Kurdish Human Rights Project KHRP, which has done outstanding work on some of the most serious human rights issues of the decade: particularly, but not only, the US-backed terrorist campaigns of the Turkish state that rank among the most terrible crimes of the grisly 1990s, leaving tens of thousands dead and millions driven from the devastated countryside, with every imaginable form of barbaric torture.

Employers adopt fingerprint scans
By STEPHANIE ARMOUR USA TODAY New technology has a growing number of companies checking out its employees' fingerprints — and raising privacy concerns in the process. Fingerprinting in the workplace is growing because the technology has become more affordable, and more companies are giving security a high priority since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, experts say. Use has especially taken off among industries such as health care, pharmaceutical, government and financial service companies. Instead of wearing ID cards, employees enter buildings after touching a fingerprint scan. Instead of using a password, they log onto their computers with only a touch. But growth is raising first-of-a-kind privacy questions among civil libertarians who say the practice goes too far. Critics say there are not enough legal protections to prevent employers from compiling databases that could be sold to third parties or otherwise abused. "The technology is developing at the speed of light, but laws that protect our privacy are in the Stone Age," said Barry Steinhardt, with the American Civil Liberties Union. "Over time, the databases will be used for wholly unrelated purposes. There's no law that an employer can't sell the data." www.ctrl.org DECLARATION & DISCLAIMER ========== CTRL is a discussion & informational exchange list.
