Remember in the US how often you had clerics vocalising in the pulpits and media for the use weapons of mass destruction as soon as they became available against whoever they perceived as their enemy. Catholic clerics were the inspiration for the first Terrorist mass Bomber were they not? During the Cold War it was the religious crusade against "godless" Jew-Commie Russia. Clerics advocated the use of Atomic bombs. Russia was a major card player in the Mid-East and an ally to some Arab nations. The Arabs could play the Russia card at the Americans too. With the decline of the Soviet power its influence in the Arab and general mid-East world has diminished. Now the holy Crusaders have a little less resistance to wage their millennial war against the Muslim Infidels. "Blood for Oil" of course is the conspiracists cover story for the war; the alleged "secret" real reason for the Crusade. But the crusade has been on-going and on-building for hundreds of years before oil was even thought of.
