Kucinich Says War Would Boost Oil Prices

WASHINGTON (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich introduced legislation Monday that would tax certain profits oil companies might reap from war in Iraq.
The war is almost certain to temporarily boost oil prices, Kucinich said, so he doesn't want those profits to be tax-free.
"Why should the American people pay for a war that is going to benefit the oil companies?" said Kucinich, a Democrat from Cleveland.
The bill would impose a so-called windfall profits tax that is similar to what some Democratic senators proposed during the 1991 Gulf War.
Kucinich, one of the most outspoken members of Congress in opposing war in Iraq, said he expected support among his Democratic colleagues.
"This keeps the debate going in Congress about who should pay for the war," he said.
