GIVE THEM WEAPONS, THEN ATTACK THEM
FEBRUARY 11. The Guardian reports: all those pages from Iraq’s weapons report that were deleted by the US government contained some very interesting details.
Details about who had armed Iraq.
Blix agreed to these deletions. Why? Because the companies who had armed Saddam could continue to provide useful info to the weapons inspectors.
This assumes that, if these companies’ criminal roles in giving Saddam bio/chem./nuke tech were exposed to the light of day, they would no longer remain friendly to the inspectors.
Sounds like, “We’re declining to prosecute Joe because, if we can get him to roll over on bigger fish, we can prosecute them.”
Except the analogy breaks down. These companies ARE big fish.
Anyway, the German newspaper Die Tageszeitung has blown the whistle. It lists suppliers from the US, China, France, England, Russia, Japan, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden. First place went to the US.
24 US companies, plus the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Agriculture, Lawrence Livermore Labs, Los Alamos Labs, Sandia National Laboratories. These last three are government facilities. ALL SUPPLIERS OF WEAPOMS TO SADDAM.
Among the US companies that supplied WMD tech to Saddam? I’m quoting now from the Guardian: “Hewlett-Packard (nuclear weapon, rocket, and conventional weapons programs), Tektronix (nuclear, rockets), Eastman Kodak (rockets), Honeywell (rockets, conventional) and American Type Culture Collection (biological).”
Clearly, these facts were deleted from the Iraq weapons report to shield the criminals, including the US government itself.
The usual rationalization offered is, “Well you see, at that time we were against so and so, and therefore we had to supply its enemy, such and so.”
In fact, this is exactly the explanation given for arming, training, and using Saudis in Afghanistan in the 1980s---Saudis who later became the object of an intense global search for terrorists by the US government.
The amount of shucking and jiving going on here is enormous. There is another factor. The public has completely bought into the idea that the US government can only conduct foreign policy by forming multiple entangling and changing alliances.
This is an unwritten law, and it is completely opposed to the ideas which were at the heart of the creation of the republic.
Contrary to much contemporary opinion, the framers were not dolts. They clearly foresaw that if the US became a carbon copy of the old European states with their clandestine foreign adventures, freedom itself would be imperiled.
And that is what is happening now.
