My apologies for not getting back to you sooner as I’ve been grieving, dealing with the prison bureaucracy of getting cleared to phone, write and get money to Fritz. It’s been such a busy time, calling our families and close friends, getting professional second opinions etc… I never thought I’d be leaving the courthouse alone on the final day of the trial, but that’s what happened. The jury found him guilty and they led him away in handcuffs right then. First, I want to tell you a little about what happened in court. After that, you’ll see Fritz’ address so that you can send him letters—he’d love to hear from you. Finally, he will be sending me articles to pass along to you, starting with “The American Dream”, at the bottom of this email.
THE TRIAL
Well, the trial was to have lasted five days, but sailed through in three. The first day the jury was selected and the opening arguments were given. On day two, came the witnesses for prosecution followed by defense’s cross-examination. Defense revealed that prosecution’s key witness, when faced with approximately 130 years on various weapons and drug charges, received a paltry 2-� year sentence as a plea agreement for testifying against Fritz. Our side had learned from the attorney for a man who had pled guilty to the robbery, that prosecution’s key witness had actually taken an active role in the bank robbery—on the day of the robbery. When pressed by defense cross-examination he finally admitted to this—thus, impeaching his own testimony. Two other witnesses that fingered Fritz also had outrageous plea agreements. It seemed as though prosecution didn’t have much of a case. The next day, defense decided not to call any of the twenty witnesses for the defense—big mistake. All the jury knew of Fritz was lies, rumor and hearsay, and that’s what they took with them into deliberations. Appeals are in process now and sentencing will be passed on April 24. Next week is his trial on the Marijuana cultivation charges, so I’m preparing our financial records to prove “visible and legal means of support”. The focus had been so much on the first case that I hope we’re prepared for this next one. Talk about a storm!

THE AMERICAN DREAM – by Fritz Springmeier
“The American Dream with liberty and justice for all.” These words sum up America’s self-image of success. It is a land of equal opportunity where you are left alone to pursue your personal dream.
Ask twenty Americans what success is and you may get twenty different answers. The good life usually involves material acquisition and usually focuses on the individual, such as the slogan “Be all that you can be.”
But where do the hodge-podge of American goals lead America? Is self-fulfillment for a woman by divorce and going to college better than fulfillment as a mother at home? Is beginning at the bottom and working yourself up the corporate ladder more fulfilling than being part of a tribe, clan or family business? Is being liberated from moral laws more satisfying than the joy of pleasing God? People in America tend to focus on how to get what they want (a good job, political power, wealth and so forth) than really wisely understanding what exactly—and why they want what they pursue. Be careful what you ask for, you might get it.
I suggest that family and community are means to a fulfilled life that are downplayed by The American Dream of individualism. The military, and to a lesser degree prison and the job environment, provides an enforced melting pot where individuals are forced out of their little clusters of likeminded associates and forced to cooperate and work with other Americans with different views about The American Dream. The cross pollination of viewpoints is as close as we come to any consensus about The American Dream. Freedom needs some form for it to be tangible. Freedom ceases to mean anything if it is merely a collection of disparate dreams. The same goes for success and justice.
What America needs is a clear vision of what exactly they want when they say “freedom, justice and liberty for all”. As it is written, “Without vision the people perish.” Who or what shall give us that new vision?
