Nevah loined nuttin' by bein' in close proximity to a rose bush (no relation to any leaders presumed here) or laying on the grass looking at the sky? Or just by observing an object in an objective manner something "not being a living entity" (and I presume you mean human -- and with some DC residents that might even a stretch). What's even more interesting is we are communicating via email which is a function of a computer program that requires an electronic device known as -- curiously enough -- a "computer" connected via telecommunication lines that miraculously transmit images and characters and thoughts and ideas. What makes this REALLY interesting is that ANY of the inanimate objects I've listed (incompletely) can be thought of as "not being a living entity". So, I suppose that over, under, around, and through them we learn nothing, as they are not, will not be, and cannot be "human". Oh. And toss out all them magazines and boox ... they ain't nuttin' but non- livin' neatly piled piles of coloured paper. Washington DC represents a collection of many things, animate (including at least human) and inanimate (contained in Venn diagrams that describe "sets"). No matter how may ways you describe the light outside of the cave to your (former) fellow Platonic cave wall shadow watchers, they will never be able to understand it from any human, no matter how hard you or anyone tries, outside of themselves. The light has the quality of "not being a living being". But only the light make make your fellows "see the light". It's like riding a bicycle: either you get it or you don't; balance and coordination have no teachers. High school English? Nah, I took American. Anyway, in the class to which you might be referring, I played chess. I didn't worry about native language skills until college. What did I take seriously in high school? Logical thinkers who created a body of knowledge we know as "philosophy". Native language skills at the high school level pale by comparison. As far a spelling, it was A Einstein who reportedly remarked that the mathematician never soils his hands in arithmetic. Anyway, you might understand about my "chess period" what I think about "indoctrination centres".
