Emphasize that you support getting out of the UN to preserve our nation's freedom to declare war only when the U.S. Congress determines that war is necessary to preserve American lives, freedom, and property. Explain that you do not favor using the U.S. military to enforce UN resolutions. Status: Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) re-introduced H.R. 1146 on March 6th. The bill was referred to the House Committee on International Relations. As of March 12th there were already four cosponsors: Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R-Maryland), Rep. John Duncan (R-Tenn.), Rep. Terry Everett (R-Ala.), and Rep. Joel Hefley (R-Colo.). Summary: Be sure to contact your representative now, even though you might have already done so innumerable times before. In recent weeks perceptions of the UN have changed dramatically. Many conservative opinion molders have begun to call for the U.S. to get out of the UN. Unfortunately, this new anti-UN rhetoric has been largely based on the failure of the UN Security Council to approve a resolution authorizing the U.S. and its allies to take military action to disarm Iraq. The more that conservative voters can be led to get mad at other nations over their lack of support for enforcing UN resolutions, the more these same voters will be conditioned to support using the U.S. military to enforce UN resolutions.
