In particular, Hartmann's book "Unequal Protection: The Rise of Corporate Dominance and Theft of Human Rights" http:// www.thomhartmann.com/home-lh.shtml , is a primer on restoring democracy from the clutches of what U.S./ British industrialists (among others) have been peddling since WWII: fascism, merely scientifically packaged as democracy. http://www.commondreams.org/views03/ 0316- 08.htm A recent best seller, "The Silent Takeover," by socio- economist Noreena Hertz also reveals how corporations across the world manipulate and pressure governments by means both legal and illegal. Hertz presents a startling report on who really governs us, and how corporations have become more powerful than governments. National sovereignty, it seems, has become an illusion fostered by coalitions of "the willing" (bought?) puppets. http:// www.powells.com/cgi-bin/biblio?inkey=62-0743234782- 0 In an article published recently in The Guardian, journalist John Pilger (who has also put together a book and film documentary, both entitled "The New Rulers of the World" http://pilger.carlton.com/globalisation/ webchat refers to the 'war on terror' as the "great charade," a "smokescreen created by the ultimate terrorist...America itself." http://www.observer.co.uk/ waronterrorism/story/0,1373,754973,00.html (As the story unfolds, we may discover that it is not so much America that is the terrorist, but an international cabal of plutocrats [or what Bill Moyers, in a 1987 PBS documentary referred to as the "secret world government"; see documentary by Dorrel http:// www.addictedtowar.com/dorrel.html ] who are the real culprits, having have decided that, after using Japan, Italy, Germany, in their previous attempts at world takeover, this time around, it would be America's turn to be their pawn. If the extreme decisions made by current administration are critically examined, for example, couldn't one reasonably conclude that these are made by persons who hate Americans, want others to hate and destroy them...?) In any case, connecting the dots makes clear that it is fascism, and most definitely not "democracy," that the United States (and its "allies") have been promoting this last century, and especially since WWII. The seemingly natural association between "capitalism" and "democracy," which most Americans, and much of the world, have come to take for granted as unquestionable truth, is little more than a lie--perhaps the biggest lie in history--contrived by corporate sponsors to deceive, dupe the public into participating in their own oppression. It is also proof of the extent to which we have been brainwashed, big time. http:// www.buzzflash.com/contributors/2002/12/ 05_Fascism.html Truth be told, left on its own, unregulated, capitalism instinctively morphs into fascism, which, in turn, by its very nature, IS a conspiracy--one zealously aimed at annihilating its primary enemy: democracy and rule of the people. Many of our presidents have sounded warnings. Addressing Congress, President Andrew Jackson said, "In this point of the case the question is distinctly presented whether the people of the United States are to govern through representatives chosen by their unbiased suffrages [votes] or whether the money and power of a great corporation are to be secretly exerted to influence their judgment and control their decisions." Also to Congress, President Van Buren stated, "I am more than ever convinced of the dangers to which the free and unbiased exercise of political opinion - the only sure foundation and safeguard of republican government - would be exposed by any further increase of the already overgrown influence of corporate authorities." President Abraham Lincoln, nearing the end of the Civil War, wrote, "We may congratulate ourselves that this cruel war is nearing its end. It has cost a vast amount of treasure and blood. The best blood of the flower of American youth has been freely offered upon our country's altar that the nation might live. It has indeed been a trying hour for the Republic; but I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed." In 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt said, "Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day." President Woodrow Wilson, during WWI, stated, "We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the world - no longer a Government of free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of small groups of dominant men." Anything that smacks of rule of, by, for the people, anything that hints of support for equality, civil and human rights, anything that suggests that all people, rather than just a self-appointed few, are worthy and deserving of liberty and the pursuit of happiness, anything that considers all of life and creation of infinite value and worth, anything of this nature is abhorrent to fascism--and thought to deserve destruction, degradation. Fascism at its core, after all, is based on an extremely radical conservative ideology that idealizes classism, racism, sexism as highly desirable social goals, thus, making the structuring of this "ideal" society its ultimate mission, and, its highest goal, the development and perfection of science- based methods of totalitarian control over the dissemination of truth and all aspects of life, from birth to death (by any and all means, including lies, misinformation, staged attacks, wars, terrorism, pharmacology, etc.). Genocide, mass deaths, suicides are all part of the secret oaths the inner circle members take in swearing loyalty unto death--not to any country or nation--but, to the mission. Americans have been kept in the dark, as Jackson said, "secretly," nevertheless, intentionally. Few realize that the rise of the Third Reich and popularity of Hitler were financed by plutocrats, mostly U.S. and British. Even fewer know about the central role Prescott Bush, George W.'s grandfather, played in financing the rise of Hitler, or how available the involvement of the Bush family is detailed. If this were not a conspiracy to overthrow the free world and impose a fascist world order, wouldn't the media have capitalized on this in the past when any member of the Bush family tried to run for political office? http://www.tarpley.net/bush2.htm A glance back at archived articles, such as the one printed in the New York Times in August 1934, reveals how hard Hitler's corporate media fans worked to shape Hitler into "der Fuhrer" (the Leader)--seemingly the sole decision maker, who had godlike capacities to make everyone fall in line-- all the while selling the public on the idea that it is a good thing to follow leaders, without question. (Keep this in mind when considering how hard corporate media, speech writers, etc., have worked--to their shame--to build an "image" of George W. as a strong, decisive "leader," even though, this time, most are not fooled, knowing Cheney and others run things!). The self-appointed architects of public opinion went even further with Mussolini, attempting to cloak him as the "infallible leader," imagine that, to get people in step with fascists' agenda. Chances are, peace friends, the real decision makers then, just as today, work under cover behind the scenes, having bought the "right" to do so, or proven themselves in some secret initiation. http:// www.nytimes.com/learning/general/onthisday/big/ 0819.html#article Thus, the history of U.S. fascism is little known to the world because plutocrats, having the power and means to do so, covered their tracks, focusing world blame instead on, i.e., the "German people" and "European leaders" who supposedly deserved the shame that was showered upon them for having "appeased" Hitler. Nonsense. The people then, as many people today, were duped, drugged, terrorized by big money campaigns into participating with the atrocities committed under the guise of "protecting" them from terrorism. The real appeasers were the big time supporters, financiers! As Hartmann points out, even publishing houses taken over by corporations became part of the conspiracy to keep creeping fascism in the United States under cover. He notes, for example, that "Back in 1983, before its publisher was acquired by a multinational corporation, the American Heritage Dictionary left us this definition of the form of government the democracies of Spain, Italy, and Germany had morphed into during the 1930s: “fas-cism (fâsh'iz'em) n. A system of government that exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with belligerent nationalism. [Ital. fascio, group.]” In contrast, today's dictionaries--and school textbooks--give rather abstract definitions of fascism, i.e., as autocratic form of government based on anti- Semitism, totally omitting the KEY characteristic of fascism as the "merging" of government and business, as well as radical idealizing of extreme forms of classism (slavery), racism (white supremacy), and sexism (women in Nazi Germany were relegated to serving as incubators for making white Aryan babies, to fight in perpetual wars). One of the best definitions for fascism, however, was given by a fascist dictator himself, Benito Mussolini, who said "Fascism should rightly be called corporatism as it is a merger of state and corporate power." Of course, if this definition were in our dictionaries and school texts, fascist plans for world domination would have been foiled long ago, and the world would not have bought the lie that the threat of fascism was eradicated by U.S. and British forces, ending with the Nuremberg trials, and so on. It is essential, perhaps vital to human survival, for citizens worldwide to awaken, more specifically, come to understand how the power given to corporations when they were granted "personhood" in the late 1800s has led to the dismantling of democracy, token elections controlled by big money, militarism throughout the world, in short, creeping fascism cloaked in multifaceted disguises, contrived rationales, propaganda schemes. Americans need to know the extent to which voting is under corporate control, and other democracies need be warned that these methods are being exported worldwide. http://www.commondreams.org/views03/ 0306- 04.htm Speaking of the ability of fascism to take on different disguises, wittingly or unwittingly, George Orwell's "1984" played a key role in distracting western minds, stirring a fearful obsession of communist totalitarianism, which crippled critical examinations of other potential threats, namely fascist totalitarianism, and the "silent takeover" by the military-industrial complex of governments around the world. In fact, it may well be that Soviet style communism has been another fascist disguise. In the name of "containing communism," for example, haven't all kinds of Hitler- style atrocities, genocide campaigns, wars, etc., continued and been tolerated by otherwise normal, upstanding citizens? Wasn't it characterized by militarism, and obsession for controlling human mind and behavior, continued unethical experimentation with human beings, severe punishments for disloyalty? What are all of the rationales that have excused befriending tyrants in the name of defending "national security" but despicable lies and schemes--contrived covers permitting the real string pullers at the very top to escape people's wrath? Whose "freedom" has the U.S./British military really been "protecting," but that of corporations, ensuring they have unfettered access to slave labor markets and "freedom" to unlimited profits? What, if not this, explains the continued genocide campaigns since WWII, and exponential rise of slavery in the U.S. and worldwide? Was Soviet communism merely another side of the same coin, perhaps, known only to a secret cabal of world leaders? Interestingly, Lenin, the first Communist dictator after the takeover of Russia in 1917, gives a clue. He's widely credited with the following quotation, "The best way to control the opposition is to lead it ourselves." Whom did Lenin brutally eliminate when he rose to power? Communists. Doesn't this raise question as to whether there, in fact, evolved two distinct camps of communism? Conceivably, one led by fascists to take their agenda for elite domination and perpetual warfare under cover, and another one, which the Soviets (fascists?) annihilated, the one with Marxist leanings in support for rule of people, which would have formed political structures more like the Kibbutz of Israel. (Note also that communists were at the top of Hitler's hit list too--in spite of the fact that he rose to power within what was known as "National Socialist Party"! Obviously, fascists have played around a lot with our languages, distorting meanings of terms beyond recognition to achieve their goals, for their political gain. Shouldn't this be a crime?) In all likelihood, left versus right debates may themselves be contrived, spawned to serve the interests of self-appointed rulers in achieving science based control of the public mind, on the one hand, by uniting them against a common "enemy," and, on the other, orchestrating false illusions of democracy to appease the public will. A recent report by votefraud.org notes that "false opposition" may well be a main contributor to the lack of progressive reforms, more specifically, explaining why certain organizations--how about the Democratic Party itself--have followed a "defeatist" course over the last quarter century. The report speculates that false opposition is "the major reason why the vote counting process has been able to be taken out of the hands of the American people without so much as a peep from the organizations that Americans thought they were depending on to protect our freedoms. And also the reason why concerned Americans have not been told about how to use the precinct system to take back the government." http://www.votefraud.org/News/2000/1/ 011600.html This does not mean that all democrats in office are frauds, but it does mean those in top leadership positions within the party understand the game plan. Shame. What opposition do corporations ruling over governments seek to dismantle, destroy? Why, of course, any opposition that cuts into or blocks unfettered corporate profits! Such as, people who demand living wages, better working conditions, peace. Enemies of capitalism are those persons who, if in pivotal position to influence others, dare to step out of line, dare to speak the truth about the pervasive, and purposeful, agenda for maintenance of classism, racism and sexism, dare to dream of realizing a "more perfect union," a United States government of, by and for the people. Surprisingly, most of the first activists in the 1800s, also unknown to most, were devoted Christians who embraced ideals for nonviolence, caring for the poor and disadvantaged, thus, viewed socialist ideals as naturally aligned with the teachings of Jesus, and means to improve democracy, smooth the rough edges of capitalism. (Note: For a stinging critique of the Christian church's participation in sanctioning state wars and oppression of people, as well as a glimpse of Christians in the United States in the 1800s as vocal activists for peace, nonviolence, labor reforms, abolition of slavery, a must read is one of the little known works by Leo Tolstoy, "The Kingdom of God is Within.") The question is: What happened to morph the Christian church from a vibrant voice for peace and the alleviation of poverty, slavery, to its present day form as a tool in support of militarism and world domination? The same can be asked of Judaism and Islam. And how about discovering what happened to divorce socialism from spirituality? Fascist schemes, big money takeovers may well be the answer to all of these. Fascists hold particular disdain for peace activists, in particular, and much energy and tax dollars have been used to dismantle, discredit them. Of course. They oppose the very tool--war--that is used to keep people under control, living in fear, oppressed, demoralized, hungry. Make no mistake. War, especially that of the 20th century, has been a fascist racket, explicitly designed to protect "freedom" of corporate profiteers while simultaneously inviting citizens to participate in their own oppression, curtailment of civil rights. President John F. Kennedy said it all, when he said, "War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today." http:// www.commondreams.org/views02/1011-05.htm All justifications for war are lies. As Thomas Hartmann points out, war is a "trick" to dismantle democracy. http:/ /www.commondreams.org/views02/0922-06.htm Fascism's very best, most dependable helpmate is terrorism. Terrorism provides the necessary justifications for "defending" and "protecting" people. Why else would the U.S. have terrorist training schools like the School of the Americas? >From the members of Ku Klux Klan in the deep South who were paid after the Civil War to keep newly emancipated African Americans "in their place" to the gangsters who were hired to dismantle union activism, from FBI programs like COINTELPRO that worked to dismantle/discredit civil rights/peace activism to suicide assassins, the best kept secret of fascism, is that without terrorism it could not conduct its charades. Without building and training bin Laden's, al-Qaeda networks, Saddams, fascists would not be able to divide-and- conquer, orchestrate civil wars, restructure societies to have access to slave labor. (Quoting the most highly respected defense journal, Jane's Defence Weekly, "In 1988, with US knowledge, bin Laden created Al-Qaeda (The Base); a conglomerate of quasi-independent Islamic terrorist cells spread across 26 or so countries. It makes gangsters, thugs, terrorists out of the jobless, demoralized masses, who are more easily bribed, bought. According to Amnesty International ("United States of America - Rights for All" Oct 1998) "The U.S.A. has supplied arms, security equipment and training to governments and armed groups that have committed torture, political killings and other human rights abuses in countries around the world." Yes, we have been kept in the dark this last century. Better late than never, millions are awakening to "see" America for what it really is. The "dream of America" has been little more than a cover for world domination, a scheme to reinstitute slavery in the U.S. and around the world. In order to understand the extent of this conspiracy to shape a topsy-turvy world, ponder on what Adolf Hitler, in "Mein Kampf," 1923, proposed, that "Through clever and constant application of propaganda people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way around, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise." Fascism has brought the world no less than the most shameful, bloodiest century in the history of humankind. As fascism is a destructive force, however, it and all those who support it, or have bought its lies and promises, are in self-destruct mode. The Golden Rule is a spiritual Principle just as real as the Law of Gravity. All of Creation and Life sing a liberating song of love and peace. It is for lovers of democracy and peace to remember that the crime has not been our blind following of these lies and schemes, though we may want to hold ourselves responsible to remain awake from here on out. As the Nuremberg War Crime Tribunal, 1950, concluded, "Individuals have international duties which transcend the national obligations of obedience. Therefore [individual citizens] have the duty to violate domestic laws to prevent crimes against peace and humanity from occurring." The real crimes, nonetheless, are those committed by leaders who have conspired, knowingly, to thwart democracy, overturn the free world under the pretense of spreading freedom and democracy, utilizing science based methodology to package fascism as "democracy." Self-appointed rulers, criminals, thugs, gangsters, front men, con artists--they are the real criminals. "The greatest crime since World War II," according to Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, "has been U.S. foreign policy." It's time the world knows the truth, openly. It's time for apologies, accountability, tears, reconciliation. These domestic and foreign policy leaders, and not the kept-in- the-dark masses, must be held accountable for wasting precious energy and vast amounts of tax payers' money in this conspiracy to control and dupe public will. Leaders must be held accountable for compromising of science and research, rather using it as a force for the building of healthier communities, as means of oppression, control of human mind, distortion of "truth," perversion of democracy, restructuring our languages, religious beliefs, all for political gain. The last ten years has seen one assault after another on our rights as citizens to form a government of, by and for the people. The fact that a large amount of energy is necessary in any attempt to dismantle democracy, however, is important to note. From ancient times to today, evidence attests to democracy and peace as natural, real possibilities. Spiritually speaking, everything in nature moves naturally toward democracy and peace, as natural outcomes, birthrights written in the depths of every human heart, along with desires for life purpose, meaning. Human beings are born with a thirst to live, thrive, create better lives for themselves, their family and loved ones, for the children of our communities that it takes a village to raise. Take heart, friends of democracy and peace. Remain hopeful. Speak truth to power.
