GREATNESS WITHOUT WAR
WHAT WE CANNOT LEARN FROM HISTORY

Rome brings to mind two thoughts ... the first is an idyllic place to visit on a European tour. �The other is a historical view of a republic founded on a strong middle class of free people that became an empire and crumbled, perhaps best symbolized by the humiliated, defeated Roman soldier falling on his own sword.
It was the industry of the farmers and the Roman middle class tradesmen that built a strong nation. �As long as Rome was a producer and trader, it grew. �People had a voice in their government, but their Senate grew more and more corrupt, created a title called "Caesar" and then the Caesar became the emperor, the strength of the military became a replacement for the strength of a productive population (and not for national security interests but for conquest and greed). �Rome ruled the then-known world ... only to become the victim of its own vices.
As Rome grew militarily, it also increased its debauchery and its cruelty. �One doesn't equate the word "kind" with a Roman legion or centurion. �It was the Romans who liberally used crucifixion as a punishment, public execution in the most horrific manner then known, and if it had indeed served as a deterrent to insurrection or invasion, even public or civic crimes, it would not have had to be repeated so frequently. �In the history of Sparticus, a gladiator who led a slaves' revolt, crucifixion was used as a means of punishing an army that had been defeated by this slave-general, choosing every tenth man at random for crucifixion as a means of warning the remainder that neither cowardice nor humiliation would be tolerated by Roman generals.
Beware of a nation that begins to lose respect for life. �Babylon had none. Egypt had none. �Assyria was one of the most heinously brutal empires. Greece was humbled and turned to philosophy. �Then came Rome.
No world empire has really had any respect for human life. �What is true for the empires of the eastern hemisphere is equally true of what is known of the Mayan, Inca and Aztec empires. �Brutality has reigned, and brutality has received double measure in return. �
It is time to learn a lesson from world history and at least six thousand years of utter failure. �
America cannot long survive if this nation does not restore freedom to every citizen, maintain a high-tech but small military for national defense, reverse its moral decline and rebuild its internal production capacities and output that will strengthen the economy. �An industrious, prosperous and free America that holds to its founding principles, engaging in military conflict only for national defense, will once again be a unique America, a leader rather than an imperialist aggressor. �It will also once again be a self-sufficient America, basing its self-sufficiency on its own natural resources and the ingenuity for which Americans have been known since the founding of the Republic.
The question really is the same as it was in Rome 2000 years ago: �can this nation overthrow the power brokers and the unbelievably rich rulers to return to a productive rather than an imperialist, expansionist nation with a huge standing military and huge national debt? �National debts are paid by heavy taxation.
For Rome, the answer was "no" and it fell. �For America, the clock is ticking and the hands are close to midnight.
Were America's last open entrepreneurial years the 1980's and 1990's? �Did the decline that began the 21st century signal the absolute end of American production superiority and begin the era of its military supremacy alone, so that its elite inner circle will eventually give way to a triumvirate and then an emperor/president that leaves Congress a powerless body of toadies to the regal few? �It is Americans who must re-learn the process of thinking and decide whether to become an empire on the way down, or a nation on the way back up.
Recovery would be unique, but this entire Republic was unique from its inception, coming out of a lengthy history of the "divine right of kings" that gave the public no voice, and instituting a government in which the leaders led with the consent of the governed. �All men were deemed to be created equal under law, and entitled to the protections provided by the Bill of Rights. �What originally applied to only the White man came to be extended to men of all shades, races, ethnicities, languages and nationalities. �Such a nation could only be built upon moral principles that our founders and successive leaders held in common, regardless of their religious fervor or lack of same. �There was a built in accountability factor that began with our individual accountability to the Creator, "Nature's God" as the Declaration of Independence put it, so that no man was without law or accountability to that law. �But law was not to be used capriciously or interpreted with favor toward some and disfavor towards others. �All these proscribed activities have occurred in our history, and all have been overcome to the greater extent.
The value of education (but not subsidized by federal funding) was generally recognized or came to be recognized as the frontiers expanded. �Local school boards, however educationally deficient the members themselves may have been, knew what comprised an "education" and employed teachers to impart the knowledge of reading, writing, spelling, grammar, history, geography, arithmetic and other formerly "basic" subjects to the children. �The churches taught the basic virtues of honesty, integrity, fidelity, and duty as well as giving instruction in the faith. �Great universities were founded first as theological institutions and then expanded into broader aspects of higher education. �No one was passed through because of special privilege extended to them because of their skin color or race or gender as is done today. �Not even fifty years ago did such privileges accrue to the few, to the detriment of the nation.
What, then, of greatness without war?
That is the one thing we have not accomplished to this date, and are on the verge of being unable to accomplish because of our entangling foreign alliances and globalist leaders who envision a one-world order in which there are but two classes: the elite, and the dispensable masses.
Having come through two world wars "to end all wars" we most certainly should have learned our lesson. �What is it about war that stirs the souls of people who themselves would faint at the sight of body parts, blood, gore and the screams of the dying? �Is it a Hollywood idea of glory? �Is it the deception that war is always necessary to stamp out some evil or to secure some national security interest that is manufactured for some other reason such as profit or control? �Many folks in my area were all too happy to support the most recent war effort, as long as the screeching fighters overhead were merely returning to Luke Air Force Base rather than bombing Phoenix and its suburbs. �Most Americans today know war only from the movies or videos. �We had a taste of it on our own soil on September 11, 2001, and it sent the whole nation running for the Prozac or booze. Well, almost the whole nation. �A few of us just watched and shuddered and poured another cup of coffee.
Where IS the outrage? �Many have asked, none have answered. �Where is our outrage at the loss of American industry, American jobs, American labels that proudly stated this product was made in the USA? �Where IS the outrage that our leadership is leaning more and more toward centering power in the White House rather than in the Congress where the Constitution placed it?
America, THINK. �It may be an unfamiliar exercise to those who have gone through federalized education (and government was never to be responsible for the education of the children, that was to be a local issue). �It may be a forgotten practice among those who have lived the past 38 years under a growing nanny state that required less and less thought, more and more obedience to more and more laws to control the people. �The demands of the state never end until the people rise up and say "ENOUGH!"
If ever America was at the crossroads since the war between the North and South, it is now.
America can dominate the planet by intimidation due to its overwhelming military might for a while, but only for a while. �Our military should be defensive and defensive only. �Hopefully our leaders are not suffering from paranoia over small nations when it is even smaller hate groups that are doing whatever damage is being inflicted upon the United States and other world nations. �Each nation so struck must put those criminals out of public contact in their own way. �It is not America's business to be the world's police force, that is not a part of our Constitution.
If we regain control of ourselves, our virtues, our strength and our vision, our perception of America as it was intended to be, then we shall be in a position to lead, to defend only if necessary, and to grow within our own nation the power to be an influence upon the entire world. �Let no one tread on us, and let us tread on no one else. �We have quite enough to do getting logs out of our own eyes at this point in time.
Let us believe it can still be done. Only if we believe can we rise up with one voice and say "ENOUGH" of this imperialist globalism -- we must rebuild America.
