They just recently bought something like half of the hospitals in the Philadelphia area from Allegheny University. (Allegheny is another story in itself; its top executives had been raiding endowment funds to pay off heavy debt...just before they declared bankruptcy!) Some preliminary research shows that Tenet, and its former incarnation as NME, had run into heavy trouble as a result of bottom-line marketing; I will admit I haven't gone into this too deeply yet.
