The American occupation of Iraq is an extension of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.  Same culture, same methods, same Likudniks and neocons driving a policy that will probably turn the entire Mideast violently against the United States.

US soldiers driving bulldozers, with jazz blaring from loudspeakers, have uprooted ancient groves of date palms as well as orange and lemon trees in central Iraq as part of a new policy of collective punishment of farmers who do not give information about guerrillas attacking US troops.

"They made a sort of joke against us by playing jazz music while they were cutting down the trees," said one man. Ambushes of US troops have taken place around Dhuluaya. But Sheikh Hussein Ali Saleh al-Jabouri, a member of a delegation that went to the nearby US base to ask for compensation for the loss of the fruit trees, said American officers described what had happened as "a punishment of local people because 'you know who is in the resistance and do not tell us'." What the Israelis had done by way of collective punishment of Palestinians was now happening in Iraq, Sheikh Hussein added.

It's amazing what has happened to the Bulldozer.  It has become the prime weapon of the 21st Century.   Israel uses them to smash Palestinian homes, orchards and any people too old or young to escape, and to kill any American activists who have enough conviction not to run away. King Bush the First used them to bury possibly thousands of  Iraqui soldiers alive during the Gulf War.   Now King Bush the Second is using them to destroy the livelihood of the Iraqui farmers.   I guess they're just a good idea whose time has come.  The US and Israel should collaborate on striking a very special medal--a tiny gold bulldozer medallion to be presented to the heavy equipment operators who man the bulldozers--it takes a special breed of cat to thoroughly enjoy such work.  I recall reading the words of one man who ran them during the Gulf war.  He loved it.  That he has nothing to commemorate his finest hour is a shame.  Prudy
