On the Self-Destruction of the Republican
Party
Two items in the news today:
1. L. Paul Bremer assures us that security in Iraq is just fine, although
Paul Wolfowitz was nearly taken out by attacks directed at one of the most
heavily fortified American locations in Iraq:
Can you imagine hiring a neocon to manage any job that required a realistic
understanding of the world and practical results? Can you imagine
expecting a neocon ever to tell you the truth about anything?
2. The Republican Party, we are told, is fretting about Donald
Rumsfeld being a "drag" on the Republicans, because of the mess in Iraq.
Apparently Rumsfeld is being set up, primarily by the neocons, to take the fall
for Iraq:
Here are some other folks the Republicans should be fretting about: George
W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Karl Rove, the cabal of neocons that
wormed its way into the Bush administration with the approval of the
Republicans, and the entire Republican leadership in the Congress. They
are all responsible for the mess in Iraq, not just Rumsfeld.
The Bush administration continues to be on track to end in chaos, ruin and
disgrace before the end of its first term. Who is primarily responsible
for the mess? George W. Bush. He is responsible for every key hire
and policy in his administration.
