Mightn't it be that the Spectacle itself produces more chatter during times when the Conspiracy wants us to be scared. It seems like the last few weeks have been filled with more than the usual amount of fright stories. Remember, the easiest way to get people to do things quickly is to scare them. Tension is good for the shopping season, after all. I personally think the best approach is to regard everything the Spectacle tells us as a lie. Unless you know someone with the human version of mad cow disease, unless you were stranded in Paris when the secret police grounded your plane, assume that these stories are hoaxes. "Control needs death like a junkie needs junk" William S Burroughs. It is far more efficient to utilize the fear of something beyond our control, for this gives the Con a double advantage. They already have the lines of communication monopolized, and this lends a sense of powerlessness to its subjects. Create a terror with a huge amount of uncertainty, and people will be virtually paralyzed. The human nervous system craves information, and all the Spectacle gives us are tape loops, audio-visual sigils that poison us and keep us complacent. regard the news as propaganda, but also as black magick. They would have us walk through their flashing carnival of plastic entranced by their Shells of fulfillment. Hungry Ghosts chased by dog faced demons that look strangely like John Ashcroft. Some will call this a "break from reality". I cannot but scoff at those who regard the buzzing things of the Region of Thud "reality". It is not a break from reality I advocate, but a return to one's own center, the place where reality is made. All around us is a psychic environment not terribly different from the one described almost a hundred years ago by Dion Fortune. One whose sanitation was "on par with that of medieval walled cities". If the citizens of the fort cannot clean their shit from the street, then the only answer is to retreat to the terra incognita outside, or at least to your own tower where you can watch with amusement. If you are skilled, you can also project some new ideas, some cleanser into the memetic cesspool below. Those who are especially brave can walk through the streets with a lamp, illuminating the filth their fellows trudge through. All this sounds like paranoia, and out of context it would be. However, what I'm suggesting is a cure for the paranoia bred by those with their hearts set on enslaving us. Turn away from the Spectacle, and listen to the unmediated voice of your True Self. React only to that which is indisputable and in front of you, not to the shadows thrown up by the bitter glass of the television. Let us turn off the Con's "chatter", and listen to the voice of our undying and secret self.
