Al-Qaida Memo Shows Plan For Iraq Civil War? Give Me A Break!
Feb 10, 2004
By Bruce Kennedy

The New York Times reported yesterday that an anti-American operative in
Iraq appealed for help from Al-Qaida leaders to help spark a sectarian war
between Shiite and Sunni Muslims in an effort to drive the U.S. out of the
country. The alleged plan is outlined in a 17-page memo that they claim U.S.
forces confiscated from an Al-Qaida suspect in Iraq and of course is "the
strongest evidence to date of contacts between extremists in Iraq and
al-Qaida".

Give me a break.

The paper said that American forces arrested a man who had the document on a
computer disc (said to be a key Al-Qaida suspect of course) who was taking
it to Afghanistan to get it to Al-Qaida's senior leadership. Abu Musab
al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian suspected of ties to al-Qaeda, was believed to be
the author. Right. We should think back to the early days after 911 when
Al-Qaida was supposed to be using sophisticated encryption techniques
embedding messages in photographs send from public libraries. Now they just
copy a document on disk and throw it in their briefcase?

The alleged document goes on to say that the resistance against the U.S.
occupation was struggling to recruit Iraqis and to combat American troops.
Considering the resistance is on the rise, whether George Bush and the
dutiful plotical media include it in his election pitch or not, rest assured
Iraqis need no encouraging to oust their occupiers. Whats is even more
absurd is the claim that the so-called Al-Qaida memo offers a kind of praise
for U.S. forces, saying "America, however, has no intention of leaving no
matter how many wounded nor how bloody it becomes". Al-Qaida has never
praised US forces for anything as its views them as imperialists and
infidels.

The total disregard for the intelligence of the American people, let alone
the world community, that the Bush administration and its media cronies show
is insulting. Now that it is common knowledge that there are no weapons of
mass destruction in Iraq (not that many of us actually believed there were),
Bush's latest position is that the war was justified because Saddam is a bad
guy and Iraq is a hotbed of "terrorism". The depths that this administration
will sink to further its military madness leaves us only the hope that this
idiot gets re-elected as there will be no one left who takes him seriously.
