To this Green Beret:
John Wayne was a very BAD actor as well as an idiot. The only people who love him are gung-ho military types who think it's "cool" or "macho" to have a gun or to be a cowboy. (and call THIS patriotism -- or even worse -- acting). Sorry, that's not patriotic.
You obviously don't remember Winter Soldier. What about Mei Li? Just because you *may* not have seen atrocities didn't mean they didn't happen. (though I doubt you didn't see it). Lots of Germans after the war denied the holocaust, that didn't make it non-existent. There are plenty of people who back up Kerry's claims. Do you really think anyone would admit to doing such horrendous things if they had not done them??? John Kerry said this in 1971. Get a grip. These aren't "resurfaced" old scars, they are the same old scars, you just are reminded. There were rapists, thugs and killers in US uniforms in Vietnam, just are there are currently, evidently, numerous rapists in Iraq wearing the fatigues of US soldiers (the current rape scandal of US female soldiers by male soldiers). War makes people crazy, they do crazy things, and Vietnam was more crazy than most, especially since it was wrong, and the US soldiers that were there were under tremendous pressure, as well as not having good leadership. I'm sure candy bars were given out, until they ran out. I only hope that there is better leadership in Iraq, though it doesn't look very hopeful. I have the feeling we are going to have a lot of damaged soldiers coming home from Iraq (and this is evidently already true).
And also you don't remember Kerry got two purple hearts and a silver star.
I'm glad you served your country, but whether you're green beret, a seal, an officer or a grunt doesn't impress me, truth does.
And you shouldn't start churches in Buddhist countries, that's offensive. That's proselytizing and trying to shove our religion down a totally different cultures belief system and I find it extremely arrogant and offensive.
The National Guard during the TIME of Vietnam was a way for people to escape the draft. People who went into it, primarily went into it to escape Vietnam, so get real. Those in the National Guard now, since there ISN'T a draft (yet!) are being sent to this tragedy in Iraq, and are losing their lives for nothing. Don't equate the National Guard of the time of Vietnam with our current National Guard, you DISHONOR their sacrifice. only 8% or less of the National Guard actually went to Vietnam. Bush was a draft dodger, and AWOL and dishonorable. (Being a Conscientious Objector is not dishonorable, btw, it's extremely hard to do it, once you realize that you didn't really want to kill innocent people and truly object to war. The military has a classification of it, and you have to be completely consistent, because they, unlike a lot of idiots out there, realize that a few young people when they go into boot camp are really not made to be killing machines and it's the training that convinces them they aren't cut out for it. If they were to be forced to go there, they would risk the lives of others. So there is an out for people who are CO's (I know this, my father is a military judge). These folks wishes are not always granted, but being a CO is a real issue, and should not be equated with "cowardice" as you seem to imply. These are people that have a very huge problem with killing other human beings, no matter what the reason. I wish everyone was like that.)
As to your other accusations, I think John Kerry changed after he came home. He does have many questions to answer for, including those, but including a lot more.
However, since Bush is continuing to send young people off to die in an unnecessary war, he has nothing to criticize Kerry over, especially since Bush never even really served. Did you know that Bush has not yet attended ONE SOLITARY funeral of a soldier that has died? That shows you just how much HE cares). What kind of commander in chief both deserts his troops and won't even visit one remembrance of the people he is responsible for killing??? What kind of an idiot says something on international TV regarding terrorist bombings in Iraq "Bring 'em on!"?? That's an open provocation to attack our people over there. One could almost call that kind of provocation treasonous.
Definitely not a commander-in-chief, but corrupt politician chickenhawk who is only interested in oil.
Bright Blessings!
