MATTHEWS: If you were to bet the house where would you bet it?

Mr. CARLSON: I'd--I'd bet Bush. But not--not too confidently. I say that with sadness.

MATTHEWS: Before we go to break, ritual chants, codes of life-long loyalty, total secrecy. Before George Bush and John Kerry became rivals they shared the bond of membership in
Skull and Bones, Yale University's elite, tiny, secret society. It's purpose: to thrust Bonesmen from its windowless tomb into the most powerful positions in the world. Examples: President William Howard Taft, President George Bush, Sr., Democrat grandy Averell Harriman, and JFK's top advisor Mc--McGeorge Bundy. No outside mortal knows what exactly goes on inside their inner temple, shown here in the movie, "The Skulls."

(Clip shown from "The
Skulls")

We do know that life-long members reunite once a year.
And when Bush and Kerry meet at the debates this fall, who knows, maybe they'll clasp with the secret handshake. I'll be right back with two very different running mates: girl-next-door Laura Bush and very continental Teresa Heinz Kerry.
