What the Hawaiians are debating is this: If "the authorities" were to some
day declare an area to be ancestral Hawaiian land with right of return by
biological Hawaiians, what scientific criterion of geneology would be
used?
The geneological charts of Edomites and Israelites were lost many
centuries ago. Even at the time of Jesus Christ, the two nations, Edom
from Esau and Israel from his twin brother Jacob, had their religions and
boundaries merged by Roman force. Even if secular historical support for
the story of the wicked King Herod has not yet been found, it illustrates
the animosity between the two groups. It seems the Israelite Jews were
chafing under the rule of Edomite Jews.
What scientific basis can be found for the "Law of Return" invoked by Jews
the world over to "return" to that region and claim citizenship the moment
they step off the plane? NONE by biological criteria. Otherwise, where are
the particulars of the Law of Return in terms like the Hawaiian statement
below? Even the Cohen Y chromosome issue may be interesting to geneticists
but it proves nothing about geneology and law of return. The same
chromosome could as well have been found in Esau as Jacob. Does it then
support return to Edom?
If there is a Law of Return, it must be based on spiritual and not
biological criteria, then. Couldn't a REASONED debate replace the
bloodshed? After all, "Judaism has never called for an unreasoning faith"
(De Sola Poole Traditional Jewish Prayer Book).
