This "Monster" in "The Fog of War" is not the American people or the collective entity we might call "America the Good", mindful of De Toqueville's famous statement. Maybe history repeats itself re your post below. I watched a historical movie on the Rise and Fall of Rome once and it made the point that Rome's decline was due to the creation of an aristocracy which began treating its common soldiers like dirt when they were no longer useful. Cisco and Ebert (sp?) say "Monster" should get the Oscar this year. It leaves you asking the question as to what this Monster is which you have seen through "The Fog of War" (best documentary I have ever seen).
