Weekly Worst: "TEDDY FLIPS OUT, MATT WIMPS OUT; ABC TOUTS CASTRO
PROPAGANDA"

The latest edition of the MRC's weekly feature, "The Weekly
Worst," identifying "the most egregious, horrendous and
stupefying liberal media bias of the week" -- the previous week,
that is. Two weeks ago we inaugurated this new weekly feature as
part of the MRC's "Tell the Truth 2004" project.

Now, the text of the May 18 edition of the MRC's "Weekly
Worst" as compiled by MRC Research Director Rich Noyes:

The so-called mainstream media never admit their liberal tilt, so
the news analysts at the Media Research Center tirelessly
document the media's bias and expose their left-wing agenda. The
"awards" for last week's lowlights:

> Teddy Flips Out, Matt Wimps Out. On May 10, John Kerry's
patron, and fellow liberal Senator from Massachusetts, Ted
Kennedy, attacked the integrity of the United States from the
floor of the U.S. Senate: "We now learn that Saddam's torture
chambers reopened under new management -- U.S. management."

But when Kennedy showed up for an interview on NBC's Today show
just three days later, co-host Matt Lauer chose to ignore the
Senator's indefensible screed. Instead, he invited Teddy to
continue his attacks: "Do you feel that we risk blurring the line
between ourselves and the people we're supposed to be protecting
U.S. citizens from?" One wonders what Senator Kennedy would have
to say about America to get Lauer's attention.

> ABC Touts Castro's Propaganda. On the May 14 World News
Tonight, Peter Jennings found it newsworthy that the communist
dictator of Cuba had rounded up a couple hundred thousand of his
subjects and forced them into a giant propaganda event. "There
was an enormous anti-American demonstration in Cuba today,"
Jennings intoned, as if the staged rally was a genuine reflection
of the sentiments of free people.

Jennings also found news in the dictator's rant "that President
Bush was trying to impose what he, Mr. Castro, called world
tyranny.'" To their credit, the CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly
News chose to ignore the dictator's manipulative anti-American
show.
