All police vacations have been canceled for the first two weeks in July, 2005, in anticipation of the G8 summit scheduled to be held at the luxurious Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, said a report on the Web site. But some fear security will be so tight around the hotel that mass protests will instead be held in Edinburgh, where many leading financial and government offices have headquarters and where fewer officers will be left to handle the turmoil. The annual summit gives leaders of the world's major industrial democracies like Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States, the chance to discuss international economic, political and security issues. This year's summit will be held next month in the state of Georgia in the United States.
