--- Begin Message --- -Caveat Lector- Just watched a Discovery Channel/Times documentary on TV called "Ancient Apocalypse," which revealed new evidence that about 2200 BC --coinciding with the collapse of all the ancient "Age of Taurus" civilizations in Egypt, Sumer/Akkad, and the Indus-- a sudden catastrophic global climate change occurred, resulting in worldwide droughts, famine and societal anarchy.  (Contemporary records describe thousands of starving people resorting to eating their own children and nomadic armies attacking villages in order to feast upon the residents.)  It was indeed sudden -- its effects appeared within a decade or two and continued unabated for several generations, for at least two centuries.  In Egypt, the Nile River nearly dried up, for the first time in millennia.  In Europe, glaciers penetrated as far south as France.  Similar effects were documented as far away as Indonesia.

So here we find several things -- (1) a more scientific explanation for the worldwide cultural collapse which Sitchin attributed to a "nuclear war" in the Middle East among the Nefilim [another such cataclysm occurring in the 8th Century BCE, discussed by Velikovsky, is consistent with an approximately 1500-year cycle mentioned in this documentary -- which suggests we're a century or so away from another "apocalypse," in sync with the coming Age of Aquarius] (2) a confirmation of the traditional belief that the transition between one Zodiacal Age and another in the Great Year is usually accompanied by global phenomena of an extra-human, "divine" nature, and (3) just one more indication that an "Ice Age" or other major climatological change --which has devastating effects on the world's population and existing social, political and economic structures-- CAN and DOES occur practically "overnight," in human terms -- within a matter of decades at the most ...

We've seen that the Bush Administration is EXTREMELY sensitive to (panicked by?) any public discussion of "The Day After Tomorrow"-style topics, even as fiction ...  I've just watched the program mentioned, the listing is on my on-screen cable TV guide, yet oddly, when searching for more info, I only get this from the Discovery Channel's own website:
