--- Begin Message --- -Caveat Lector- "Infamous," in the author's hyperbole, because it was mentioned as only the second lodge authorized by the GD, but swathed in mystery by the GD founders themselves -- leaving us a blank that researchers have tried to fill in. However, judging by the track record of Mackenzie, Mathers, and the rest, creators of "scams" and con-games going back to the 1850s, there probably wasn't any such lodge -- it's on a par with the "Ascended Masters," "Fraulein Sprengel," the "cipher manuscript," and the mathematical/metaphysical work written by Wronski* that was "revised" by them, turned into the "kabbalistic" "Abramelin."
Once you penetrate the "glamor" around these characters and their milieu, and entertain the hypothesis that they were simply, unglamorously con-men and posers, it all makes sense and all details are consistent with that hypothesis. The only question then is, by whom were they supported and for what ends -- in short, who were they USED by?
My feeling at this point is that there was a group of high-ranking Freemasons ("royal" Master Masons) that travelled within and/or alongside the main characters in the evolution of the Societas Rosicruciana en Anglia into the GD, linked with the more rational Royal Society of Psychic Research, which is proven to have been an extension of Cecil/Balfour activities. I'm intrigued by the influence of Jewish Masons from Frankfort (some of whom were proto- Zionists like Moses Hess, and others, Messianic Jews influenced by Sabbatai Zevi) on British Freemasonry at this period, because that is entirely consistent with the Rothschilds' alliance with the Cecils already evident at the time of Disraeli, Bulwer-Lytton and (if I am to believe LaRouche) Lord Palmerston. (There seems to have been a parallel current of Martinist influence through Papus that I'm still sorting my way through; I reserve judgment, for the time being, on whether that group likewise had crypto-Jewish goals.)
Not surprising to learn that even "Eliphas Levi," when not busy exploring Magick, was also active as an anti-monarchic leftist revolutionary: Scratch an occultist (especially within a "secret society") and find a spy (secret agent), in my experience -- the two milieus are of near-identical psychology ... We note as well that Mathers was a Jacobite, as was Lady Caithness, and most of the dramatis personae in the literally theatrical world of the GD (bankrolled by Annie Horniman, better known as patron of the nationalistic Celtic Revival in British theatre) hoped that a return of the deposed Stuart dynasty (whom the Cecils had served for centuries) to the British throne would result in greater liberty for the oppressed "colonials," Irish, Scots, etc., who otherwise espoused independence through revolution (in parallel with the Zionists). So we're looking at a leftwing, decidedly homosexual (Balfour himself was publicly ridiculed as a "nelly"), fantasy-driven (most likely deliberately using fantasy for its hypnotic, persuasive effects) "New Age" anti-Windsor counterculture -- covertly supported by the Cecils, second in power only to the Windsors themselves ...
I don't have very much time anymore to research the connections in detail --to definitively connect the dots to the Cecil/Balfour group and their sociopolitical agenda-- but I still return to the subject from time to time. For example, right now I'm sending out feelers trying to identify the exact family ties between "magus" Edward Maitland --who, like Bulwer-Lytton was also a Colonial Administrator and presumably a Freemason-- good buddy of Mathers and Westcott -- and other Maitlands who married into the Balfours, who intermarried with the Cecils, during the same period marked by the created of the GD and the RSPR ... We might as well call it "All in The Family," all roads leading to Rome -- or rather, Jerusalem?
